Powder coating is like baking on enamel. They take a said part, sprinkle some powder on it and bake it at like a gozillion degrees. I'm think this is a non technical brief description but that is in fact the basics of it. I don't know what the material is, my guess is some kind of enamel or high temp resin?

Maybe....somewhat ??

That works, but a little more specifically the coated part is cured at about 400 degrees. The powder is sprayed on using a special siphon feed gun, sometime electrostaticaly applied (the powder will have an opposite charge from the part, attracting the powder). Powder coating is great because it gives you a perfectly smooth finish with very little prep work. It is very durrable, and is easy to clean. And you can get just about any color imaginable in powder, even metallic and pearlescent colors.

Most body shops can't do powder coating, but chances are there is someone in your area that does.I live near Dayton Ohio, and I know of 3 places in the area that can powdercoat.(I'm sure there's more) There is also home powdercoating kits you can buy, but that is usually for smaller stuff, like things that will fit in a home oven.(one you don't plan on cooking with again)
