I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
I bought a 110 Gallon weatherguard tank for the new 450 before I left. I came back, and the damned thing is leaking through a weld. Called weatherguard, and they are shipping me a new tank, prepaid return. No muss, no fuss.

Now then, the tanks come powdercoated in white, but I'd like to re-do it in black.

Short of sandblasting, what chemicals are you guys aware of that will remove the OEM powdercoat?

Google said Permatex gasket remover works well. I know brake fluid works as well, but I don't feel like submerging the tank in 50 gallons of brake fluid.

Know of anything else?

Solvent wipe and wet sand the current tank and paint over it. You won't better the factory prep process so the original paint should be good to go. And going from white to black, I'll leave that up to the King of Krackas

In normal circumstances, you are right. But we're talking about baking. You can't bake new powder on old powder.

That, and I don't think the electrolysis process would work very well with old powder still on the tank.

You are right if you want to re-powder coat it, you need clean as a baby's butt.

Powder-Coat is not all that it is cracked up to be if you know what I mean.;)

Where in the hell are you going to find an oven big enough to bake a 50 gal tank anyways? You must have some connections!

no seriously...............:)

I'm guessing it's a bed mounted tank. As long as the blasting company takes it's time in masking the filler neck/ vents, there should'nt be any issues.

I may be missing something though.

Have you ever SEEN a baby's but? It's always crappy! LOL

As far as why powdercoat it? I considered spray on stuff like Rhino Lining, but that crap fades after 6 months. PC will stay nice an shiny for a while.

On a side note, I'm really impressed with this company. I expected to have to take the tank back to Salt lake where I bought it, turn it in to them, wait a month, go back to salt lake, pick it up, etc. etc. Nope. Told the guy what was wrong, he asked for my address, and is shipping out a new tank.

That is what I call customer service. I'm going to pick up a low profile toolbox made by weatherguard as well now.

Nope. It's a ROOF mounted tank. Of course it's a bed mounted tank. I don't even know why I'm doing all this, towards the end of the year, I'm going to have a Company out of Texas called Herrin (http://herrinhauler.com/) - Not to be confused with herrinhaulers, a porn site - build me a custom flat bed for the truck. My own design, 300 Gallon capacity in the bed. It's slick.

I deal with the crap every day at work. It chafes my arse, and I'm starting to dislike anything "sand". :D

But seriously, why pay some schmuck a couple of hundred to sandblast it, when I can do just as well with chemical stripper? That way, I can save $150 and buy stuff that goes "BOOM!" :p

Well speaking from experience, (12 gallons of milk a week @ $3.50 a clip), I know what you are saying. But I don't think you have any tadpoles running around yet so you probably don't understand how clean you could get one of those things. Believe me, it has something to do with the lack of anal hair. But I really don't think we want to go there.:D

This may come as a shock to you, but I have indeed cleaned aforementioned crappy butts of friends' kids. It funny when you change a baby because his mom is busy while dad just looks on in horror and disgust . LMAO.

I predict that in 5 years Frogman will be changing his own kids dirty diapers. :D

I have used Klean-Strip Premium Sprayable Stripper with good results. Got it from Home Depot.

it is soooo strong - melts everything near it, burns eyes, throat and skin - just being in the same room... but seems to a great job.

Just grab a palm sander and tear it up, I got a dewalt orbital, it goes thru powder coat like nothing. :q:q:q:q the chemicals. Should only take you 15 minutes.
