I havent posted on here in I dont know how long but this is the only place i think that will help me with this problem. My power steering seems to be messed up. I hope its just low fluid but i havent checked that yet. When I'm going slow or not accelerating it seems like i have no power steering. The amount of power steering seems to be tied in with engine rpms but I have no idea what that could/does mean. I'm going to go check the power steering fluid right now but any replied would be great. :feedback

welp, nevermind then. Filled up the power steering and seems to work fine. Dont know if the power steering fluid did the trick because i didnt try it before that just now but it doesnt matter now, does it? :) Thanks to all that would have replied.

If the problem returns and the fluid level is up, you might need a new pump. My friend owned a 71 Mustang that had no power steering untill you hit about 50 mph, then the pump would start working, and woudl continue to work untill the engine was shut off. Pumps are usually pretty simple to change. two lines and a couple of bolts to remove it, and possibly a puller to get the pulley off for the new pump.

thanks gadget, and yes, it did return. :( A simple fix is always good news. Maybe i can do this myself. For some reason when i filled it up with more fluid very it worked just fine even if i wasnt moving but today it isnt even though the fluid level still up. I went out there earlier and tried to follow the pipes going from the fluid reservior but i couldn't quite locate the pump. Looks like I'll be doing some tech article searching and some ebay motoring. Thanks again for the advice. :Beer :wrench

The pump is built into the resivoir. Should be located on the driver's side of the car. They usually aren't much to change, two lines and a few bolts. The only trick to this whole procedure is the fact you'll need a tool to remove the pulley from the pump as the new one probably wont come with one. Good luck.
