I have a 97 LSC with a vortech supercharger and recently my 255 pump went out on me. So i put in the svt focus pump.
The pump runs great except when i'm taking long right turns when getting on the highway, it seems like it's sucking air and the car almost dies.
It does this no matter how much fuel is in the tank, but it's less noticeable with the tank more than 3/4 full. My old pump would do this but only when the tank was under a 1/4 and only going straight, not going around a turn. I know these pumps empty out that fuel bowl pretty quick but they were both 255 pumps.
Anyone have any ideas?

If the pump only acts up when turning I would think possible loose or frayed wire. If it's not at low fuel levels then its not sucking the basket dry. Electrical issue.

When you installed the focus pump did you keep the mark basket. If so I dont see how it would empty the basket its wide open in two places. One being where the filter sock comes out. Electrical issue.

I assumed when you changed the mark VIII's fuel pump to a 255, you need to use a 255 made for the mark viii, or the 96-98 cobra. Because the mark VIII runs a return style fuel system, the newer cars, (i.e. svt focus, new mustangs) don't unless its modified to run that way.

The pump doesn't care whether it's in a return style or returnless system. It's a pump. The fuel return on the Mark doesn't go through the pump itself.

Now then... The Mark, for all intents and purposes, uses a single speed pump. The pump can and does run faster when it has more voltage applied to it by the VCRM. But in the end... It's still a single speed pump by design.

The returnless pumps are a variable speed pump. Ask me how I know about this, what with installing one in my 98 and it failing 300 miles later, only to realize I had installed the wrong part numbered pump.

So.. I don't know how you'd "modify" anything in the pump itself to convert it to a style it's not designed for.

Your cardomain page says you have a
255lph Holley Fuel Pump Installation
in there, not a Focus pump.
