I tried to set up the Homelink Universal Transceiver so I would not need to use the garage door opener anymore and could just press the button on my visor but I cannot get it to work.

I followed the directions in the manual but no luck.

Has anyone else had problems setting their transceiver or have any advice I would appreciate it.

John

You just hold your remote against it and keep it's botton pressed, at the same time you press one of the three bottons on the homelink and hold it down untill the red light starts flashing fast. Then you are done. That's how it is I think. I don't remember it very well, but that's what it is I think.

john, after you program your car you need to program your actual door opener. usually involves hitting a "learn" button on the door opener then pressing the button you setup on the car.

Not all openers are compatible with homelink, for example wayne dalton openers are not. They require an upgrade to a universal transmitter.

I had no problem programming my Mark VIII to a Genie remote. I now have a garage door from "Overhead Doors" and cant program my LS to work it. I havent tried pressing the Learn Button on the garage controller cuz

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone else noticed that the Home Link transmitters seem to be weaker than the remotes that come with the garage door openers? I have had three different vehicles with Home link and all of them activate the garage door much closer (about 75'-100') than the opener remotes. I can hit the normal remote two houses away & it works, but the home Link has to be right in front of the house before it activates the opener.

In my experience, its just the opposite. I can be down the street from my house, hit the Homelink in the car, and the doors go up. This is true in my LS and my wife's Infiniti.

You HAVE TO push the learning button on your garage door. remember, the process of programming INSIDE the LS only sets up the frequency.. You then HAVE TO use the learn button on the opener to tell it to accept the LS's transmissions and get it in the rolling code cycle (assuming your opener is less than ~10 years old). As for range, I've found that pushing and holding the button in the car for ~2 seconds works well and range is great.

Go to the homelink website. There will be directions based on your garage door company. I had to do it for mine.

Older opener so perhaps it is just a combo of terrain and age. Like I said, three different cars over the past 6 years and all were the same.

I have a Homelink installed in my 90 BMW 325i, it came out off of an LS and it works fabulous.
