Saturday night I headed out from my neighborhood and noticed the car wouldn't rpm below 1500 I let off the gas to see if it would drop but it didn't and as I took my foot off the gas and brake the car continued to gain speed not moving from 1500 rpm. I turned around and headed home to switch cars and when I put the car in park it shot up to 3k rpm. This problem has happened to me twice so far (Saturday night, Monday morning) with no problems at all Sunday at all or Monday afternoon. I have been unable to recreate this problem and have no idea why it's doing this. Any Ideas??

I know exactlly what u mean.
My dad had a 97 with that problem. We believe it was the throttle body butterflies. ( U know, those flaps that open to let it more air. )

Well, in 97, it seems as though they made it semi electric because under the 2 flaps on the top, there are 2 more flaps under that are controlled electically. We think this is the problem but he sold the car before fixing it. So I can't confirm 100% that this is the problem.

97 was the last year of that and 98+ was fully mechanical. Since my dads in the car business, he avoids buying 95-97 Conti's because of all the bugs Ford left behind. The sweetspot is 98+

ya it's a 97. I'll keep that in mind when we look at it. My dad was leaning towards the throttle body as well. He's driven the car after I had the problems and said that it drove strong and without any issues so he doesn't know.

sounds likes a tps is starting to get sticky replace as soon as you can
