I recently told my wife that my '97 LSC Toreador Red Mark was way more rare than her (piss ant) '95 M-Edition Merlot Miata. Unfortunately she failed to believe me (go figure), and I'm looking for some proof in the form of production numbers. All I can find so far is 16,805 Marks in 1997. Do any of you recall seeing anything that may help? John in SC

Only 3500 M-Edition Miatas were made in 95.

10 Mark VIII colors available in 97. Thats 1,680 Marks per color. Given that Ivory, Silver, Black and Opal are popular followed by Evergreen and Prairie tan I would say that maybe 800 at most ended up be Toreador Red.

If anyone has a good idea of colors by popularity, Jamie may have a good idea. I am just basin it on what I have seen.

Either way, if all colors were equally popular, yours would still be more rare in color than hers. Now if she had the "R" package, then those are much more rare at less than 500 made in 95.

There were 1,225 toreador red mark viii's made in 1998. Given the fact that there were 2,500 more cars built in 1997, there should be around 1,300 of them.
