when i got my LSC last year, the idler pulley was bad, replaced it, and also replaced the tensioner which was bad too.......a month ago my idler pulley was going out again, replaced it, and last week i replaced the tensioner pulley again too........is this gonna be like a yearly maintenance item now? should they be going out this fast?...........just wondering, i dont rev the crap out of my car everyday or nothing.......of course i start hearing them at high rpm when i do play with my car, and the smell of burnt rubber coming from the engine compartment.........
 
since i dont know about gen2s all that much, its just a guess. is the tensioner pulley spring loaded, or adjustable with a slot and bolt you tighten? if it is a slot type adjustable tensioner then when you changed the pulleys last time, you probably put too much tension on the belt making it wear them out again.
 
ok. now i know. when you say they are going out... does that mean making a grinding noise, like bearings, or getting flatspots/ melting? that sort of thing?..

i have seen some go due to junk quality, wrong belt (too short) which put too much tension on things, but usually that is alt.. exc.
 
You've got some sort of problem in the system there. You shouldn't be burning them up that fast. Check that all of your acessories are aligned properly, or more specifically, the pullies.
 
i can hear the grinding noise when they start going out, the same noise i heard when i got my car, is what i heard this time around.......and yeah the tensioner is spring loaded........i got a gatorback belt on, nothing looks out of alignment :confused:
 
are you sure the noise is coming from those pulleys? seems weird that those 2 newer pulleys are going out after only being that old.
 
it was the pulleys making the noise, changed them, noise gone.......tensioner and pulley i bought last year i bought from Ford, the new ones i got from rockauto......theyre the same pulleys............
 
Interesting situation. I have a tensioner pulley going out and have been looking at prices. I don't know If I want to replace the tensioner pulley or the assembly. The tensioner is well within the inspectoion marks and if the pulleys are wearing out this quick, then that helps making a choice on part selection.
 
Does the tensioner assembly come with the arm and pulley? I think I need to replace mine...
