My 2002 LS has 44k miles and the warranty expires in Oct or at 50K

I found out that the previous owner paid for an extended warranty to Oct 07 or 75k miles.

I found the guys name on a paper left in the car, and the dealership verified that this was the previous owner. I googled the guys name and found him on his companies(tech company) website in the management section. I don't have his phone #, however, I do have his companies phone #, and most likely could guess his email address.

The dealership tells me that I would need a signed document from him stating that he his transferring the warranty to me.

My questions:

How much would you pay for an extra year of warranty? It seems like the guy makes some good $, so I am hoping that if I ask nicely, he might transfer it for next to nothing.

What you do think is the best way of contacting him? Snail mail his work, email to work, or try to get through on phone to him at work?

How risky would it be to not contact him and sign the document for him?:shifty:

note: previous owner has not owned the car for almost 2 years now

I would just email him at his work and ask...no harm done. I would think that if he were a reasonable person he would not ask for any money in return since he hasnt owned the car in nearly 2 years and he was most likely happy with the deal he received when he traded it in.

I wouldnt forge the document because the warranty company would most likely have his signature on file on the original paperwork. And that would get you in some hot water....and if you were to mail the forged documents that would include mail fraud which is a felony.

thanks for the feedback

email makes the most sence, however, most businesses have spam filters that reject mail coming from yahoo.com, gmail.com

i am thinking that i will send him and email and a letter, then hope that one reaches him. two weeks later, i will try to get through to him at work

I called the Ford ESP 800 number to check on the ESP plan I discovered in my LS when I bought it. They advised that the previous owner had cashed out the 7yr/100K ESP so it was not available for transfer. They did however tell me that the LS was sold as a CPO and that the Premier Lincoln CPO warranty of 6yr/75K was transferrable to me at no cost. They ask where I purchased the LS and if it was a L/M dealer. I said yes, gave them the name and the salesman's name. They ask to put me on hold for a few minutes. After about 10 minutes, he returned to the phone and told me everything had been transferred to me and I was good until 01-03-09 or 75K miles. While it's not the Premium ESP the owner had purchased, it's still better than nothing after the base warranty runs out and it was free! :)
