I have been surfing the net today and have found some (IMO) neat mods.
I am thinking of trying the push button start. This is my idea:

Relocate the key ignition to the center console, by my gear shift, then install the start button where the factory igintion is.
I believe the relocation of the factory ignition will be a simple wiring extension and drilling a hole and using the existing gromet from the factory location. Then all that needs to be done is fab up a mounting point and wiring in the push button.

Is this more trouble then its worth? or a neat idea? I believe I may have enough space to mount the push button on the console too if you guys think that would be a better location. Any ideas will help or if you guys think this is a stupid idea...All opinions will be helpful.

Here are some pics of where I would mount it....
I would remove the change holder pouch and put the key ignition in that location and put the push start next to it...

I also found out early 1940's Lincolns had push starts, kinda neat to bring it back...

i personally think its a great idea. and would love to see how this project goes. im surprised quikls hasnt tried this b4. Pm him and ask him about this, im sure he's got all the knowledge.

Hey Bill, I like your input on custom ideas.....Do u think I should mount the key ignition on the console or try to find an out of the way location....
I am kinda thinking of mounting it lower on the dash panel more out of the way...

i think its a cool idea too... but why not leave the regular key ignition where it is and put the push button next to that? instead of cuttin up your console...

I like the idea of putting a button somewhere i might put it up higher incase u knock it or something happens, drink spills, girl climbs on your lap and hits it (hate when that happens). Maybe do i like a porshe and have it on the left side; where the dimmers are.

Here's the button I'm gonna try it's from the Honda S2000.
I just thought the console would be a neat place to mount it, I have seen a few with the button on the left and some with the button next to the keys. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. That's why I need all the ideas from everyone.

(don't tell anybody but I jacked the pics.....:D )I figure I'm not using them to sell anything so no harm no foul....

you could put the button on the top vents on the center console next to the 4 computer engine buttons... or better yet, if you dont have them buttons, you could put it where they would go... theres a lot of places you could put it, guess it just depends on your personal preference, and where you wanna be pushin the button in so you dont strain nothin ;) lol

If I cut the ignition wires to extend them will this create a problem with the cars oem security system....i.e. disable the car??

i would put it in a place that shows.. but a place that is not ugly.. i like the idea of putting it by the shifter or where it is located in the stock LS. THe only thing is.. if u put it where the stock one is.. it wont look like a big mod..

Mount the gas where the shifter is, like an airplane throttle. No but really, I can't wait to see the finished product it sounds cool.

You have the V6, mount that thing right above the stereo. It would be simple to just tap into the ignition so you could use the key and the button! Great idea.

Back in the day, all cars had push-button start. Keyed ignition switches didn't really come into fashion until the '40s or '50s.

The pushbutton should go where the ignition switch is now, and the key should go behind the door at the bottom of the center stack--relocate the cig lighter to inside the armrest. And screw that Honda junk--you need the start button from an Aston Martin. Or does Jaguar have a push-button start on one of their cars? :D

BTW, this sounds like an outstanding mod!

some ppl care.. and some dont.. do u want a chick to get in ya car and notice u got some "cool" thing done to ur car.. or do u rather be "under the radar"? it all depends.. i got lambo doors.. whetheri want it or not.. i park my car and have ppl stock and take pics regardless..

quick question.. i got the clifford blackjack alarm.. would i have to do something diff. if i ever wanted to do this mod?

I have been searching for a better push start button, but haven't really found any I like. I am just really concerned with the idea this may disable my car when I tap into the igntion system, But I guess I will find out... I plan on having this done by the meet on march 18th I will take step by step pics and post a how to when finished. Wish me luck...

good luck.. any questions let me know.. i know a couple installers and electricians.. as far as the button is concerned.. i like the "start engine" red one u posted.. any other button is just going to be a regular button.. check out the new car push buttons... go to a dealership and check them out.. maybe u can get the red one painted blac or the color of ur car..

I have changed my mind.....I really can't see what the purpose would be unless I could figure out a way to make it completly keyless start. Which would be a security issue unless I upgraded to a new alarm system with an accesory button and hide an additional switch somewhere.

That was my thinking...Sounds like a great idea, but you don't want someone to be able to just get in your car and drive off....Plus, you have to activate the ignition somehow...plug the key in, turn the ignition on, then hit the button? Why not just go ahead the turn the key over to start her up while you have it in your hand?...I agree it's unique and would look awesome, but would you really use it after a while and the new wore off?....I was looking at a Lexas IS 350 before I bought my LS...It had remote keyless entry and keyless start...But you had to have the remote to activate the car.

PS. Glad I went with the LS.....LOVE IT

I say you wire it up so that you don't need the key at all. on my 03 if you lock the doors w/the remote and then don't unlock them WITH the remote it sets off the factory alarm. additionally it disables the inside lock/unlock buttons so if someone tries to get cute and unlock the car that way that wouldn't work either.

did u think of the black jack?? after u start the car u need to put in a key code.. or the car turns off on u.. i have it.. u can push start the car.. and then put in the code..

first of all, we are forgeting the transponder thats in the ignition key, if you horwire or cut off the key and intall it next to the transponder then you just bypassed the security system on your car -- by the way this is how you get the remote starter to work on the LS wich is not a good idea here in NYC, car theives know that you just bypassed the the transponder and your car is BYE Bye -- now it is a cool mod for the push button but the thing is that you will still have to use the key so whats the purpose - but im not spreading any hate here, i would love to do this kinda mod, but security has to come first and using both key and button is not very appealing to me.....

What about the stearing wheel lock? If the ignition is moved how's that gonna work?
