Question???? About s/c my 97 VIII

Hi guys I would like to supercharge my 97 and the best route seems to be the vortech kit? from what i can see the 4FK218-010SQ kit would be the right one. it has 6-8 psi and adds 144 hp adverage but im trying to get the most input on this Ive never messed with them before and I dont want to do a whole lot of mods to the engine right now...all input is appericated

If you don't want to do lots of mods to the engine, a supercharger isn't the way to go. You're gonna need and spend alot more than you think.

Start out simple:

Exhaust: Kooks mid-headers, 2.5 pipes with x-pipe and high-flow mufflers.
Gears: 4.30 with limited slip.
Tranny: Cooler, J-mod, high-stall torque converter.
Computer: Chip or tune.
Intake: K&N filter, remove air silencer, Pro-M MAF sensor.
Fuel: 255lph pump.

Internal mods like piston and rings, as a blower will bring a rebuild on sooner than later.

BTW, I saw on Modular4v site that a Kenny Bell unit gives fatter bottom-end which lends well to around town driving, but not to road racing per heat issues for example.

if the boost is kept to a moderate level and the tune is good, a blower on a stock motor will live a long time. the motor becomes a problem when you put too much boost to it or have a bad tune. everything in moderation with the stock motor.

the blower i was looking at was only a 6-8 psi 8 being maxed out I was told that the mod4v engines would handle up to 8.5 before you had to start doing any major mods?

yeah thats probably a reasonable number, with a good tune it should be fine.
our motors cant handle alot of boost beacuase of the cast pistons and powdered metal rods. not really high boost friendly..
