so I saw a saleen in a ford lot and wanted to read up on the car. they have some very impresive #'s as far as H.P is concered, a very nice ride. however I was wondering why on all saleen stangs do they use the 4.6 sohc and not the dohc??

Saleens are suited for street performance. Hint; low-end torque and midrange performance- like that found in 2V 4.6L engines. Cobra's are track cars with performance over 3,000+ RPM's...

Thanks, now I get it. but giving the same h.p and torque #'s which car would be better/faster. a cobra with the dohc or a saleen?

i think the codra is faster if it has the DOHC but maybe the salleen is faster man

Probably a tie. Saleens hit low-13's to high-12's easily; as will a Cobra. But as I've said- Cobra's own the high RPM band, so in a match on 60ft or 1/8th times, the Saleen will own. But in a match for power over 5,000 RPM's, Cobra dominates...

It should be noted that most people buy Saleens as collector's items- they're hand-built with exclusive custom parts and signed/ numbered by the man himself (same with Roush Mustangs)- and not necessarily track performance. That's where SVT Cobra comes in...
