Ok. I've got a severe rich running problem
Black smoke, lack of power, gas mileage down the drain, flooding etc.
No check engine light, no codes.
It just started a couple of days ago where I'll be at a traffic light and
the care starts stumbling and stinks like hell.
Have cleaned egr system and cooler. New valve a year ago.
I even changed the check valve in the egr tube and still black smoke.
When i'm on the highway it's not so bad but if I step on it she really
belchs the smoke. Has a rotton egg thing when I open the sunroof.

I've just spent $700.00 on cats last year and don't want to fry them.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated as I'm just about to wash
my hands to the whole fricken piece of crap any day now and buy an 86
or newer (Chevy):q

Problem solved

Pulled OEM o2 sensor.
Performed bench test I found on the internet.
Voltage would spike and then drop to zero. Fail.
1 New BOSCH o2 sensor, a tank of premium and a nice long drive on the
highway.

Problem solved.

Thanks for looking.

Damn.
I thought I was about to pick up another Mark VII CHEAP from another disgruntled owner. :)

Congratulations on doing the test and coming to the conclusion of a bad O2 sensor. Please tell everyone where you found the article and what brand and part number you installed.

Thanks oldschool1
Seems like theres not to many of us still in the 84/85 battle with CFI

What a great system. I'm under the hood more than in the drivers seat
but I sure have learned a lot.

The part is a BOSCH #12909 Theres also another# 23-2800-0 on the box

Heres the link for the O2 info: http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/O2_Sensor.html

Note the very last lines

Priceless.

You're welcome and thanks for sharing the knowledge.
