Quotes you will never find in an Obama speech:

- “I am proud to be an American.”

- “Large numbers of ordinary, middle-class Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from all over the country marching on Washington?! You know something’s up!”

- “We’re not interested in government fixes; we’re interested in freedom! Freedom!”

- “We’re Americans. We’re always hopeful.”

Bonus question: Who actually uttered these statements? Googlers will be penalized. :D

She also said....

"I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out."

"They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan."

"I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.”

foxpaws, what is your point?
To take things out of context or to simply exploit mistakes she made?
Are you saying that she's stupid or that she's a big government tyrant based upon a quote from her local, jealous adversary.

Fosten is clearly demonstrating a difference in political philosophy, not showcase verbal gaffes.
But you're a pro, you know that, but couldn't let an opportunity to make another trivial attack on her with the intention of misrepresenting her pass.
The woman left office yet you're still threatened.

I am saying that you have to take the bad along with the good (or however you might view the quotes, taken out of context as well, that foss posted).

That doesn't even make sense. You don't have a point, you just want to underscore a misleading negative.

Are you saying that the quotes provided by Foss are not consistent or representative of the way Palin view the country?

Though he's never said anything like it, do you think Obama would agree with those statements?

No, I do have a point - that you can pull quotes from anyone and fashion them so that the person is seen in a positive or negative light.

You need to view the good with the bad to get a better concept of the whole.

She certainly is proud to be an American citizen. Foss' quotes are correct. Does her viewpoint of what constitutes a 'Good American' agree with how others define the term 'Good American', probably not. Especially since she believes that there are areas of the country that are full of good 'pro' Americans, leaving other areas of the country absent in those values that she uses to define 'Good Americans'.

"but as a citizen – a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world"

"Hope in the face of difficulty, hope in the face of uncertainty, the audacity of hope: In the end, that is God's greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation, a belief in things not seen, a belief that there are better days ahead."

- Oh, he has said things 'like' those statements Cal.

Oh, I am hardly threatened by a quitter... (another example of how to make sure an opportunity doesn't pass by that I can make another trivial attack on her, however, nothing I said is a misrepresentation of her).

So your point is meant to distract from fossten's point, not actually confront and/or counter it. Your goal is to mislead.

Thanks for clearing that up.

So, what is Foss' point? That those types of statements haven't been made by Obama - they have... look at my previous posts.

He is trying to show Obama in a bad light - correct? As though he might not be proud to be an American, that he doesn't think that American's are hopeful.

Plus, it was a great way to show indeed I did know who made those oh so patriotic statements, in a subtle and yes, confrontational way ;)

His point was more specific then that. But only by oversimplifying can you then equate it to your actions. More of that "good faith" in discussing things.

You stay classy.

So, Shag - what is foss' point - since you obviously know...

I was going by the title of this thread - quotes you'll never hear in an Obama speech - and I have posted similar quotes -

Then I asked if the reason he had started this thread was perhaps to show Obama in a negative light - to imply that Obama wasn't proud to be an American, or that Obama didn't believe that American's are hopeful.

So oh classy one, the one that can see into the minds of others... what was foss' point?

Plus, I should be awarded those bonus points - I only knew one of the quotes... but I certainly knew who said the third one on his list...

Demonstrate some intellectual integrity and approach this forum by discussing things in good faith and I will be happy to answer any question you ask.
