Racing RPM's at start up?

Well I've done a few searches and couldn't find my answer.

Every time I start my car my motor will rush to about 1800-1900 RPM's for a few seconds (7-8 secs) before dropping down to about 800 RPM's. It sounds as if I'm racing my engine when I fire it up. But my foot is not on the gas pedal.

Does anyone else have this issue? It can't be good for a engine that has been sitting all night to "race" up to almost 2000 RPM's before settling down.

It's been mentioned here before.
It's suppose to do that to warm up the engine.
I let rpm drop before I shift to drive.

yeah it is to the o2 sensors hot so they can start contributing to AF mixture.
