Rack replacement.

Are there any steering rack replacement tech articles out there? Mine is bad, as I discovered while it was on the lift for an oil change. I had originally though it was the rack ends, but it's not. It looks easy enough to replace. I need a pump too, which I should do at the same time....heck...might as well change the lines too.
Also, is the $99 cardone rack at Advance any good? I need to go as low budget as I can.
I have ALOT of work to do on this car........

Write a tech article when you replace it. If it's easy enough I might just replace mine when I replace the pump that is going out.

Heh, my pump is on it's way out too. It makes noise when I start the car, and whines all the time. The rack has alot of play in it. I might just have someone do it for me some night next week. Supposed to snow here tomorrow, and Sunday is supposed to be really cold. I have arthritis, and it's hard for me to work out in the cold. If it was going to be warm, it would be a differents story.
I looked at the replacement info for a T-bird at Autozone.com, it doesn't look too bad. For the p/s pump it says you need a tool for the pulley, which I have access to.
The only thing I would worry about would be the alignment, I suppose I could get it "close enough" to drive it to a shop for alignment.

I'm going to knock out the pump and throw on a new belt and waterpump (prevention) for good measure, but I am trying to wait until it warm up in a few weeks. With temps in the 20's and 30's for highs next week, no thanks.

Just getting over the flu, don't want to risk getting sick again right now.;) I had enough of working on cars in cold weather back in Michigan.

LOL....Been there, done that. I have arthritis in my hips now, it makes it hard to work outside in the cold. I think I am going to end up using the lift at work, Unless I get some warm weather. This is just one of the many things my car needs.

yea mine whines and sounds like a pogo stick.. i woudl like to replace this asap.. what do i need... new power steering pump, and a new rack? anytthing else? how many hours can i expect doin this... also what should i check on the rear shocks that would make it soudn like a tool box in the trunk

I just can't wait till I get everything fixed on this car. Seems like one thing after another.
