Jiffy Lube has filled my hydraulic fan motor with radiator fluid. This happened in 8-14-2014 I have only driven 1000 miles on the car. Did this cost me my engine or compromise it?

well the wrong fluid in the fan reservoir wouldn't directly cause any damage to the engine itself, (now once the fan system took a sh!t, if it kept being driven while overheating...) however, that will damage the fan system by not having the correct fluid in it...

long story short, they now owe you at least SOME repair work (if of course you can prove that they screwed up...)

good luck.

By some, he means in the thousands to replace the hydraulic fan system. Some pointers to make it sound a little more reasonable when you are talking about this. Don't say "radiator fluid." The correct term is coolant. Coolant is a mixture of water and anti-freeze. The hydraulic fan reservoir is supposed to be filled with Mercon V automatic transmission fluid, and nothing else. Coolant doesn't have the same properties as the Mercon. If it had been caught and drained/flushed/refilled right away, you would probably have been okay. Now that it has been in there a while, it has caused corrosion of the metal parts of the pump, fan motor, and actuator. All should be replaced.

If you kept going with a non-working fan and let the engine overheat many times, then it may be toast now as well. If it only overheated a few times and you stopped each time, you are probably okay (as far as the engine itself goes).

I merely meant some not as in a small amount, but maybe not all of the cost if you have to replace the whole engine. now if it were me and the motor was toast, I for sure would think that they should be responsible for the entire bill, but some might argue if it kept overheating and you kept driving it or not fixing it right away, then you may have some fault to blame in the motors early retirement...

do you have the invoice stating that they put coolant in the fan reservoir?

do you have any proof that they are the ones who did that? not saying that they didn't, but knowing someone did something and proving it are worlds apart...

Today I will go see Ford and see what they will put in writing for me. Joegr you always lead me right. the car hasn't overheated yet. Thank you guys.
