Anyone ever heard of a problem where the radio cuts out when putting the vehicle into gear? Getting frustrated...

Wow! How lucky are you!?!

You seem to have a very early production of the Government mandated vehicles that will shut down any distractions while you're driving, such as radios, cell phones, etc.

What's even stranger, those vehicles are not yet out for sale, and won't be for at least 5 years.

Either that, or you can find the answer you're likely looking for, here. I'm pretty sure I did. But we loaned out the baby spoon, so I can't feed you with it.

Yes I'm a newb to to the posting... but very familiar with your forums.. and my car... love this site.. didn't see much as to my problem in the forums... I checked all but the third row of fuses in the passenger bank... checked number 27... too damn cold in Indiana to check em all in the outdoors as I'm at home for the holidays... brrr... could it possibly be an overload on a taxed alternator? btw I'd rather borrow the big spoon, still got that on hand?

I haven't heard of this issue with the LS before. It seems to be a somewhat common problem with the Ford Focus.
What is your electrical system voltage while in drive?

should be a simple fix, run a new constant power wire, an accessory power wire, and a ground wire.

Okay, does this happen all of the time, or just some of the time?
If it's all of the time, then there is a connection between the radio and the transmission range selector switch.
I only have the wiring diagrams for gen II, so gen I may be a little different.
There is a wire going to the radio that is hot only when the starter is engaged. It's purpose is to cut the radio off while you are starting the car. On gen II, it is gray with an orange band. This same signal goes to the transmission switch as part of the starter lock out when in gear. If the transmission switch is messed up, it might backfeed voltage on this line. On the gen II, you can pull fuse F2.02 to cut the signal to the radio and find out if this is the problem.

Thanks guys... It was happening all of the time on Christmas day... Insanely cold day... Pulled it in the shop and took some time the next day to check voltage from alternator and all looked fine... checked all elecrtical connections ie brushed battery terminals still no luck.. pulled, checked and re-seated all fuses.. problem went away... I can't truely believe that was the problem though.. the problem did reappear once since but it started working again after putting it back into park and then back into drive... no issues since... I think I'm on borrowed time though... appreciate the help! I will definitely check the tranny switch with joegr's suggestion... I'll let you all know if it comes back.
