Ragtop woes

I've had a '73 Eldo convertible since about 1988 and in the last few years I've noticed that often, especially when it's chilly outside, all i get when hitting the switch to put it up or down is a "click" behind the back seat. Other times it works fine, if not a little arthritic in its old age. I thought it might be the relay and replaced that yesterday. I put the top back up afteward; no prob. Tried to put it back down, "click". I think the only other device back there is the motor, but sometimes it works fine. Don't know what else to check. Any ideas?

maybe the switch itself is faulty or could be a loose wire or bad conection possably the wire insulation has dry rotted in the motor causing you grief
