Random warning?

So whats the deal with this? Ever since I had my 2002, I get a random ding sound and a quick flash on my information board that you can barely read cuz it flashes so quick.
One time I got lucky and happend to be looking at my speedometer when it pinged, and I glimpsed "Advance" but didn't read the rest.

Google searching led me to other sites with people all saying the same thing. And the replys are pretty standard "Mine does that too. I think noting of it". (ignorance is bliss I guess )
Also tried searching this site to find past related threads. Notta. Has this been discussed before??

So... does everyone else's do it too? Is this a first Gen thing or is it common with second Gens? And what causes this?

IIRC, this can be a premature warning sign that the fuel pump might be on its way out.

I would get the beep every now and then in my 2000 ls with a quick message on the info center it would usually say check advance trac. Haven't gotten anything like that on my 04 yet

Really, it's a random loss of communication between the pcm and one of the other computers; usually the transmission. It's well known and well documented. Since it is random and intermittent Lincoln wouldn't address it. It only affects message center (therefore V8) cars. It also has absolutely no affect on the running of the car. Think of it as your car having a moment with you.

Ya its been doing it for 5 years, since I got it. Some people call it the `ghost`warning. As long as it doesn't wreak havoc on my system, im good!

Just wanted to point out its not only in v8's. I heard it on my v6 yesterday, as well as a few other v6 owners on here. It happens more frequently on v8 models for some reason.

I've had it happen maybe six times in 1.5 years. However, mine either pops up and disappears so quick I can never see it, or I just never get a message.

It seems to always happen when I'm turning which is weird....fuel pump like one of the other posters mentioned?

I've had my 06 LS for just over a month now and have had the same problem with random chimes from the message center, sometimes from doing nothing more than putting the key in the ignition; the last time it did it the message center finally came up with a indication that one of my brake lights had gone out, of course when I checked it there was nothing wrong with it. It hasn't happened since then, but I bought new bulbs to put in just in case it does; it seems that as our cars become more sophisticated, the likelihood of random gremlins popping up becomes more frequent.

My Acura 3.5RL would do this also on occasion, so unless you get a warning that sticks (stays on) or the same warning over and over (repeated warnings about system "X") ; then it's likely just a temporary loss of communication with a monitored system and nothing to get worried about, just keep the scheduled service up to date and keep an eye open for things that don't look right.

Mine does oddball stuff. Last night it started the rain and I hit the turn signal at the same time the car decided to turn the lights on and it chimed at me. Sometimes I'll have the windows going up in auto when I pull the key out and randomly one will go back down in auto.

So far it's just silly stuff that gives the car some character.

I've never looked quick enough to see the message, but I know mine relates to the wiring in the trunk. When I put my new surround on, I got the beep 2 times that day.
