I took the easy way on the spark plug replacement job, and replaced only the driver side in my LS 2005 (50,000 miles). Why? I drive 200y from my house to the highway and noticed vibrations for about a mile or so. I associated the vibration with a pair of injectors being shut due to misfires even though no engine light came on. If I drive through the neighborhood to the next highway exit and the engine warms up a bit then there is no vibration. The old plugs were nice and pink but the gap was huge so after installing the new ones the difference is amazing. Vibration is gone and the car is swift and responsive. The 3.0 engine requires intake manifold removal to get to the other three spark plugs so I called a few dealerships to see if it is worth passing that to someone else. Besides wildly different quotes, I got one of them telling me that they need to re-program the PCM, another one that they need to adjust the timing, and another one that they don't have the spark plug gaskets in stock but if I leave the car for the day they will get some.
Fun aside, I looked up the PCM re-program issue and it's not bogus but I don't know if a TSB has actually been issued for 2005 LS 3.0.
Now the actual questions:
1. Is it possible that my car runs so well because of what it "learned" in the past with the worn spark plugs?
2. If instead of flushing the coolant I clamp the two hoses on the intake manifold would that little bit of air find its way out naturally without bleeding the cooling system?
