After putting 2 10" subs in the trunk, I get a rattle from my rear decklid. It seems mostly from the grills over the factory 6x9 subs. I was wondering if anyone else has experinced this and if they know a good remedy for these annoying noises.

Subs..rattle...Duh ?? Thats like going to the doctor and saying, "You know when i fart i smell something wierd?"

Well, I never had any rattle in my truck or mustang. I would think that a luxury car would be better insulated than a Chevy or old car. I'm running the same subs in the truck and it is very clear bass. I figured that the decklid could be better insulated and didn't know if anyone had any pointers on were to start.

Too funny!

In the 2003+ models, when the THX system was being developed and installed, an advanced laser scanner was used to identify the source of a resonance in the rear package tray that made the bass in early prototypes sound buzzy. To address the problem, engineers added mass to the metal package tray to remove the resonance frequencies.

What year LS is yours Rebel?

As a quick fix, couldn't you just throw a bag of sand on the rear package tray?

Yes it was funny, but why accept the rattle if you don't have too? I know some people like all the bass they can get and listen to the rattling, but I think a good system should play low, let you feel it, but only hear the music not the interior of the vehicle shaking. Maybe I shouldn't be so paticular, I just couldn't help but wonder why a higher quality vehicle's interior would shake more than my older vehicles.

I think your trunklid is aluminum....which I think might make it more likely to rattle than, say, and old chevy. Tried Dynamat?

The Chevy was a truck. I thought about dnyomat but wasn't for sure were to apply it because it really seems to be coming from the grills over the factory 6x9's, I thought about taking the grills off and seeing if I could do something to them to stop the rattling but wasn't for sure if they just popped off or screwed in.

Well, I finally figured out what my problem was. It wasn’t my car. It was the subs. Evidently I had them hooked up wrong. They were 8 ohm subs and my amp supported 4 ohm or 2 ohm loads. I rewired them and they sound awesome. The only audible rattle I get is from outside my car which I had anticipated, but I knew something just didn’t sound right inside till I found my mistake. I hope this helps someone else if they have a problem because my only concern now is this weird smell I get when I fart.:D

WOW that so wierd I have the same problem when I fart. Maybe we should start a new thread to address this. lol IM SUCH A STINKER!
