i worked at valvoline for a while and they said that you dont mess with ford rear difs. i know that valvoline is a little screwy but i was wondering if this is true. i have 108k on my 96 town car and was wanting to replace the fluid i just didnt know if it was ok or not. i know never to do the coolant flush on such high mileage cause the last 2 cars i did it to made the engine spray coolant everywhere. that happened to a 91 caprice and my 94 ltc. also transmission fluid. should i just drain and fill my coolant and transmission fluids or leave them alone. sorry for the weak questions but ive never gotten a straight answer because every car is different and i dont want to mess this car up.

noticed this post didnt have much time to be on the main page so im just putting it back out there. any help would be appreciated

At over 100k miles, it's time to replace that rear differential fluid. 80w90 will be good.

For the coolant, all I do is a drain (from radiator petcock) and refill, but I don't let my cooling systems go (I replace the coolant yearly)
You will also want a new MOTORCRAFT 192/195 thermostat and thermostat o-ring. Make sure to drain the system down before pulling the thermostat, and to close the petcock and refill from the thermostat opening before installing the new one - which will make bleeding go a lot easier.

For the transmission fluid, just drop the pan to empty it and drain the torque convertor - that will get most of it. If you go to crownvic.net and click on the tech link near the top there is a how-to. DON'T change your ATF if brown or smells burnt.
