Does anyone know what gears i have in my car and what rear end will swap into my mark. I was Led to beleive that it has 3.27 but want to know for sure. I Have a 91 lsc with a 5spd swap and it lags a little on bottom end and decided to start with gears.

Check the tag on the differential housing/rear axle. From that code you can determine what gear and if it is an open differential or not. To pep up the engine a bit be sure to do the free/cheap tune up steps first to get the most bang for your buck!

LSC's came with a 3.27 rear, Bill Blass' got the 3.08's

Not exactly. You are overlooking the 2.73 rearend, as well as the trac-lok option, or the lack there of.

Gears will definitely wake it up. If you go with something like 4.10s, be prepared to have first gear be an absolute joke :D

What had a 2.73?

You can also check your door jam sticker for the axle code. Post it and someone will know. An E code is a 3.27 and Trac-Lok if I remember right.

Josh, there was never a 2.73 offered in the Mark VII... Only a 3.08 in the BB and 3.27 in the LSC, i'm looking at the factory sales brochure for '90 right now... Both the BB and the LSC had an optional Traction-Lok rear also

Yes there was. :p It was not for very long, though, compared to the life of the VII. It was in 1986-1987, and they probably stopped doing it when they started putting the 225HP H.O. in them. Here is what a quick search got me:

Link

The diesel mark also had different gears IIRC

True, they had a 3.73. I didn't include that, as it isn't a huge contributor and not something 99% of owners have.

lol, not this time. You're pretty good at getting me, but you're not getting that elusive term out of me this time! :shifty:
