Was wondering if anyone has swapped the irs in the marks for a live axle like some of the mustang guys have done. seen a couple of articles in mm&FF mag about the swap what type of benifites does this give you?
The main difference was weight on cars like the Cobra, but with the Mark VIII pieces being aluminum, I don't think that there would be any advantage at all swapping in a 8.8 solid axle.
Very very hard. The cobra mustang was designed and built actually as a straight axle car, but was retrofitted into a IRS and when I mean retrofitted I mean by the factory. The T-bird/Lincolm mark8 was designed and engineered back in 1989 as a IRS car. Actually I am not even sure if there is enough body area to allow movement of a straight axle. No to get too far off subject but that was one of the main reason explorers went IRS in like 02' was to give more cargo room.
