3.73 posi. first of all i think it exists, but im not sure, does it? secondly, if it does can it be swapped semi easily with the stock 3.07/8)

ps : im affraid of messing up expensive parts on the car, so i dont try to do things myself, i just find out what i want and how its done. :wrench

they existed in the Cobra mustangs with the IRS ('99 to 03 I believe would be a direct swap) They bolt right in. Or you can get the posi from a mustang and buy the gears and have somone rebuild the rearend for you.

well, actually i kinda want somthing better than the 3.73, but not as bad on gas and top speed as the 4.10, is there a happy medium? also is the 3.73 posi pumpkin a direct bolt on with IRS, because i had looked into this before at the dealer, and he said basicly the same thing, get a pump with the gears and get someone to install it, but then he said that he couldnt sell it to me because it wasnt a factory option for the car when it came out. any heads up on what to do with that?

a dealer won't do anything unless its a factory option, you'll have to find an independent shop

The 99 and 01 Cobra have 28 spline IRS while the 03 Cobra got treated to a 31-spline IRS to help deal with the power.

Give Max @ 5 Star Ford a call 1-800-866-1520 ext 236, his prices CAN NOT be beaten. You can either buy just the gears and have them installed, or you can buy a new pumpkin and new gears and have it all installed....but give Max a call, he will set ya straight!

I am not a big fan of the 4:10's for a couple of reasons. Hear me out. If you run on the highway alot, most of the time you will be running with the IMRC's open which is not a good thing. If you are into drag racing, I haven't really seen a big pickup in time slips in the quarter. The mph don't seem to be there. The car seems to run out of gear. Flame me, but IMHO!

I may be talking out of my ass at this point but this is one man's opinion. If I were going to add a power adder, I wouldn't go above a 373. If I ran mostly on the street NA, by all means run 410's or even 430's.

My decision would be based mostly on what type of driving I do. That is where you must start. I know lots of guys that have run 410's and then do alot of freeway driving and not only is it alot of wear and tear, I think it gets tiring. Like I said, on the street, absolutely go for the biggest gear you can get. These cars don't make any kind of real power until 3500 rpm+.

Off to see the Christmaas lights. Take care.

i didnt forget about the driveshaft, but i wouldnt go with a double DS, a single metal matrix DS ballenced up to 10,000 RPM. also, i do do a LOT of highway driving, namley at the 85mph range, so i dont think that i would like seeing 4000 rpm for 3 hours

gears

I have 4.30s and I drive 60 miles one way to work, its not that bad at all When I switched to the 4.30s I kinda expected it to be alot more noticeable than it is.

Your right around the corner from me.
I have 4.10's in The TerminVIIIor"
Stop by and Ill take ya for a ride so you can check them out.

Mrwilson I am not sure on the rpm cuz my tach quit a while back , but I would guess around 3grand at 85mph.

Hi,
i have 3.73 gears w/ trac lock love them they seem just right for me i bought my from max at 5 star ford

Sometimes. You can always install the gears and try them out. Not that big of a deal to drop the shaft later.
