I HATE CHROME :mad::mad::mad:
currently my surrounding is plastidipped
but wanted to start saving to color match mine
just curious though
would it be cheaper to paint mine at a body shop
or buy one from an lvc members
and would a gen 2 fit a gen 1?:confused:

Gen two does not fit the gen one. Gotta change the bumper and trunk to use a gen two surround.
Price all depends on your local body shop/paint places prices vs how much someone would sell one for

I cannot see why it should be more than $100, at the most, for a professional job. Guessing they would charge one hour on the prep and labor as well as one hour on the paint and finishing.

However, there have been a lot of members here who have done it themselves and they came out great. Rell comes immediately to mind because he did a writeup with pics.

My only suggestion is if you are going to do it, pay extra to get the higher quality clear. Most shops will do work on a low price basis using cheaper 3 year clear which hazes and will separate from the base color in around 5 years.

^^+1. Even then, you are placing trust that they indeed use it.

Had mine done for $70. I bought a used black one and had it painted red however, don't know if the price would go up if it were "chrome". The shop told me most of it was just materials as it wasn't a common color. I didn't care because $70 seemed fair to me. Good luck.

Remember though, it was already painted. Also, I separated the trim that gets painted from the rest of it so the only thing they had to tape up was the emblem. Pretty much all they had to do was a little prep work and lay down a few coats.

Unsure on what you'll pay to get the materials. I was only doing this once so I didn't want anything left over.
