I'm pretty new to this site. I've done a few searches on the thread I'm looking for but couldn't find anything.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS, few months ago my rear passenger door lock gave out, door wouldn't even lock/unlock or even open. Went to my dealership, paid the $100 deductable, they replaced the lock. 3 weeks after I got my car back my lock went out again. Anybody have any ideas on what's causing this? Thanks.

welcome aboard. id take the car back to the dealer and raise hell. they should replace it or at least fix whats wrong with it.

Every part replaced by a lincoln dealer comes with a 12 month/ 12,000 mile warranty so they should fix it for free

The LS comes with childproof rear door locks. The switch is above the latch on the door. Have you checked to see if that switch is working properly?

So should I ask the dealer to check that? Right now it's too late for me to check cause I can't even open the door. I figured that could be the problem but wasn't too sure. Thanks for the info y'all. I had a post on lincolnforums.com on this and till this day there is no reply. haha

My owner's manual says the following about childproof rear door locks:

"When these locks are set, the rear doors cannot be opened from the inside. The rear doors can be opened from the outside when the doors are unlocked."

I have not tried this, but I assume from the above that when the childproof lock is set AND the regular door lock is set, you cannot open the door from the inside or the outside. I assume you can move the lock lever next to the door handle on the inside and then open the door from the outside. Have you tried this?

I think its worth mentioning all this to the dealer. However, that being said, I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem you're having is not with the lock itself but with some other part in the door. It seems strange that the same problem returned 3 weeks after the lock was replaced -- that leads me to believe the problem isn't with the lock, but with something else.

PM80 is right, the service and parts are under warranty. You should bring the car back and point this out.

Good luck.

I'm wondering if it's not something as simple as a link rod coming disconnected.
