Will cus of the rain I only got one side done.
Last time I did this I sware I used a digrinder but this time that got too messy
so I use a shade tree trick that we did to mod motor mounts. burned the rubber off.

My wifes car has been riding on the mounts like this for about a year with no problems.

There's a guy on another board selling mounts they he makes. I am either going to order some from him, or make my own.
I have been eliminating one annoying noise at a time....

ya , the ones that came with the 97 t-bird shocks $19.95 each .

I tried buying better bushing , I paid about $34 for a set of 4 , but the guy at the store forgot to call it in , so I said screw it. that was too much cash anyway.

where did you get those shocks and

are they for the Mark VIII or a Thunderbird or what?I got some shocks from Strutmasters and if I use them I'm gona have to do something like you did because strutmasters shocks aren't the correct ones.Atleast the ones I got aren't the correct ones. They did send new bushings to go into the old mounting plates but they are too small.I wish I had of used Arnotts now.My brother has had good luck with Arnott.I thought I'd save a couple bucks. O'well.

to make sure i understand - you removed the old mounts, burned off the bushing, and put a new bushing on?

just cheep 97 t-bird shocks from kragens

cobra shocks fit our cars? you just ordered regular cobra shocks? how did you remove the old bushings?

Cool.Thanks.These are the kind of post I really Like.

I remember when I was a teen and a friend who had a SS 396 Chevel told me that one of his radiator hoses cost $8.xx and that the same hose was used on a Cadilac and that the hose then would cost $14.xx something.Alot of this stuff will interchange or atleast is close enough that if ya have some mechanical ability and a good imagination you can figure out what to do.Cool. Thanks.:)

yep.. i had an 85 fleetwood with the 4.1, it was the FWD Oldsmobile motor rebadged to say caddy.. my intake temp sensor went out, $56 for a new one at teh parts store when i asked for a caddy part, $13 when i asked for the Olds part.. same part number too..

I did a similar thing to my rear shock mounts last week.. I installed some HPH Antihop shocks. i took out the stock mount, used the sawzall to cut the rise out of the mount so that it sits flat. ground it smooth and used Tbird bushings. works great so far. i think i will go get a couple wide fender washers with a 3/4" center and weld them to the modified mount just to help keep the bushings centered..

Hope this isn't too dumb of a question, can this be done with the air bag suspension or is your car converted? And what T-Bird shocks are they, gas? thanks for any info.:)

any 92-97 T-Bird V8 rear shock is a direct bolt in to a Mark VIII.

Buddy...what did you mod? Looks like you just tore off the broken stock bushing, and mounted the Bilstein's with washers and supplied bushings?

and fwiw, Monroe sensatracs for a T-Bird run about $25 each...part number
5965 (for those who wanted to know).

I know the Cobra rear shock shaft is thicker in dia. to the stock Lincoln shocks, so anyone who wants to install them will have to modify the rear mount slightly.

The shocks and the air bags in the rear are separate items. Pull a tire and stick your head in there and poke around. Pop the trunk and lift off the carpet around the shock towers and you will see the 2 nuts that have to come off to pull the shock. Pretty easy thing to replace and you even get the satisfaction of doing it yourself, even though it might take you 2 hours the 1st time.

that about it , yet getting that out is about the hardest part.

as for changing the shocks , I feel taking out the back seat is the only way to go. Getting in and out of the trunk with the car lifted will get you killed

Why pay when with a little lighter fluid , you can use you own mounts ?
I could still burn the old ones, even if I don't re-use them :gr_devil:

Do you? I didn't have to modify anything. The bilsteins came with bushings and new mounts.

Are those Bilstiens for a T-Bird, or Mark?
Can you just but T-Bird mounts, or do they even use mounts?

They are 96-98 Cobra Bilsteins.

As you can sii in the picture, good sir, they do use mounts. Can you use the T-Bird mounts, that I do not know.
Yes, I can see the mount in the picture, good sir. I was referring to the thunderbird. I didn't know if they use the same type of mount, or just a hole in the body.
