I need to remove the lower rear valance so I can repaint it. I see in the TascaParts.com catalog that it looks like 9 bolts hold it in place. My question is: Can I access all of these bolts/connections without removing the bumper cover?

Nope..... There are a couple of plastic rivets that need to be removed that are only accessible with the bumper removed.

So is removing the bumper a real PITA too?

That I don't know for sure.... I know others that have done it and they say it really isn't too bad..... A service cd would come in handy... They are on eBay all the time.

with the interchangibility of the bumpers, and the very little differences (if really any) in the actual body, while it MAY, I would think that its probably not.

if there is a small change, I would think that this would get him 97% there and should be able to see any thing that was changed pretty easy.

the cds arent that expensive, i would <and did> pay to have a model-specific cd to know for sure on a gen 1 or a gen 2 v6. people here should probably share the files from their cds instead of making ppl pay some random eastern european person $10 for a cd tho...
with that said i have the 05 manuals....

and fwiw, i removed/replaced a gen2 bumper, and the only reason i couldnt do it by myself from the wheelchair i was in at the time is bc the one rear qtr panel had been smashed 12 inches into the trunk and when i pulled that out the holes for the bumper cover bolts werent in spec anymore. two people and an hour and you should be good to go with remove/replace on an undamaged car

It looks fairly straight forward. Are the nuts metric or standard? I'm headed out to Harbor Freight to fetch a set of deep sockets.

I don't know why I blindly assumed that the rear valance was the protruding lip and that it was removable. It isn't; that is all part of the rear bumper cover. I'm thinking I'll just repaint it while in place and use the line just below the chrome as a masking line.

The valance is the black trim piece on the bottom of the bumper.

F that, I would use the line ABOVE the chrome as the tape line, that way you can get rid of that ugly chrome strip!
