What causes the rear view mirror liquid to disappear from part of the mirror when there is no leakage around the mirror glass? Is this an age thing? Is there a way to keep this from happening?

I purchased the car with this problem in the mirror so I replaced the mirror with one from the salvage yard. One month later I now have the same problem.

Age is all I think is why these go bad. seem to last longer in colder environments.

It's age, the liquid just seems to deterioirate in the mirror. Best bet is just buy a new one and it will last for as long as you have the car most likely. A new mirror is probably on the horizon for ya.

New Mirror

Thanks so much for replying.

I just checked with Ford.com and they have what appears to be two different mirrors, the "day and night" version for 38.15, the "w/o courtesy lamp" for 459.69. What is the difference? My assumption is the "day and night" version is mechanical and I have the "w/o courtesy lamp". (The car does not have a sun/moon roof.)

Are there after market suppliers that have these "w/o courtesy lamp" mirrors for more reasonable prices? If so, where can I get them?

I am thanking you in advance for your assistance.
