I got a 2000 Lincoln ls and inside rear view mirror does not auto dim. There is a brown oval that goes accross the whole mirror. I wanted to replace the mirror but I would like to put one in that has the compass. Have any of you guys upgraded the mirror to one that does have the compass? If so which year LS would I use to upgrade, 02,03, 04, etc? And what would I need to do to existing to make the new mirror work?

The mirrors are not interchangeable.

If you have the V-8 than you need to find a mirror that has the compass module above the mount(because of the rain sensing module), unless you remove the mirror mount. I went with a auto dimming mirror w/compass & outside temp display(did'nt like the temp display in the DATC). The only thing you will need to do is change the wiring connectors because the OE mirror has a 3-pin connector & the compass mirror & compass temp mirrors have a 7-pin connectors. I have about 90 auto dimming mirrors of all sorts(auto dimming only, auto dimming w/compass, auto dimming w/compass & OS temp w/single or dual displays, auto dimming w/homelink/compass/temp, auto dimming w/auto headlamps & delay timer w/compass/OS temp, etc). So if you need any pic's of the mirrors or connectors let me know and i post them.

I have a V8. I rally don't care if I get outside temp. I haven't taken the mirror off so I don't knowwhat the connectors look like. If possible I would appreciate pics to show how it looks and how to connect.

You said if I had a V8 I would need to find another v8 that had one; is there any 2000 ls V8 that have the compass? I called the local Ford dealership and they first told me it would run 3bills, but he checked something and said it would not work on car? I am going to check in another town's dealership.

The moisture sensing wipers were standard on the V-8 and if you look behind your rear view mirror you will see the module is too close to the mirror mount for the other ford compass mirrors to fit. Ford moved the mirror mount up for the 01-02 LS's to allow room for the mirror w/ the compass module attached at the bottom of the mirror mount. Gentex corp. & Donnelly makes many different style compass mirrors for all car manufacturers. All dealerships will tell you the same thing, because they go by what was available for your specific year. You have 2 choices of compass mirrors for your LS if you don't want to reposition the mirror mount(mirror w/ the top mounted compass module or the mirror w/ the internal compass module). As for the different wiring connector, both mirrors use the same 3 wires(12Volt from ignition sw, Ground, and 12Volt from reverse lights) all you need to do is remove the wires from the original connector and put them in the connector for the new mirror. I may not have time today to post pic's but will try for tomorrow. Really, this is a very simple upgrade, I've installed these electrochromic mirrors in all my vehicles since they came out in 1990.

What year LS do you have?? If you want the OS temp/compass mirror you will have to run 2 wires from the rearview mirror out to the temp sensor that you will need to mount behind the grille(if you don't already have an auto dimming mirror *V-6 model* then you will need to run a total of 5 wires, the other 3 are 1-12volt w/ignition in run, 2-ground, 3-12volts from reverse lamps). Depending on what year LS you would need it for, I would sell the compass/temp mirror for $100 plus shipping. I only have a few that will work for the 00 V-8.

Both 1st and 2nd gen mirrors come up on Ebay.

Search on Ebay "Lincoln LS mirror" there are a few.

Does the gen2 mirror have temp. on it?

I have never been able to figure out how to get it to display anything but the compass.

No just the compass, outside temp is part of the climate control on the center stack.

Here are some pic's:
1st pic is of my 00 LS V-8 w/Auto dimming mirror w/Compass/OS Temp (single display)

2nd pic is of the connectors, 3-pin connector (standard for the 00 LS V-8 auto dimming mirror) and the 7-pin connector(standard for the 01-02 LS auto dimming mirror w/ Compass). As you can see the pins are the same for both connectors, so you need only swap out connectors to upgrade.

3rd pic is showing both mirrors(left mirror shows the compass module above the mount and the right mirror shows the compass module below the mount).

Hey man, do you have just an auto-dimming mirror for a 2000 LS? I don't need one with a compass because I have an indash navigation unit. I don't need one with the outside temp because I already have an outside temp display inside my car, so basically just need a plug and play 3 pin mirror with auto-dimming feature. If so, how much you want for it?

I have many mirrors(auto dimming only) that will work for your LS, but if you want one that is identical to the original(on/off button on the bottom of the mirror) than I will check to see if I still have my original mirror from my 00 LS that I took off in 2001. $30 plus shipping. If you PM me w/ an email address I can send you pic's.

need parts

My 3 pin one went bad when I looked at the mirror it came off the windshield. so repositioning is not a problem. just need a longer stem for the rear view mirror and an adapter for the compass.

Can you send me the pics for changing out the 3 pin for 7 pin plug? where do you get the adapted plug? if you have one can I get info on how to get it?

Sorry to revive an old thread guys, but check out what I found when cleaning my rearview in my 06':

You can clearly see in the LCD that the option for temperature is there, but maybe they are just not using this option? Like the part is capable of performing the function, just not being utilized since not connected to the proper input? Can we make it work?

or they just bought the display from the lowest bidder, and that bidder happens to be the lowest because they make it for many other things besides a ford mirror and make enough of them to where they can spit them out for cheap...

more importantly, why would you want it to show temps since the DATC already shows both inside and outside temps?

First, that's not an LCD. It's a vacuum fluorescent display, which is a very different technology. Second, the company that manufactures that mirror actually sells the same mirror (with minor variations) to several different car manufacturers, not just Lincoln. Some of those use it for temperature display. They use the same VFD in all of them because that is way cheaper than designing, building, and stocking separate displays when they are only very slightly different. The LS mirror does not have the wiring connections that would be needed to be able to display temperature.
If you really want that feature, you can buy the aftermarket version of the mirror and install the needed sensor.
