Rearview Mirror Compass Calibration

I am hoping for someone who has run into the same situation I have. I replaced the windshield on my 2002 LS V8 and the compass needs to be reset. YES I have gone through the steps in the manual. I have it programmed to the proper region. When i start the car and attempt to hold the "comp" button to have it show "C" it continuously shows the region number. It will never show the "C" in order for me to calibrate it.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
 
Why do you think that it needs to be calibrated? (Replacing a windshield does not cause any calibration changes.) Is it reading incorrectly?
At some point in time (I don't remember which year), I think they eliminated the calibration procedure as they realized it wasn't really needed anymore. I recall the compass in the mirror of my 94 once going crazy after I parked at the foot of a microwave relay tower. Driving in a circle resolved it.
 
Dodge at one time had to be calibrated... SOP was to drive in a circle 7 times...

Hi Joegr,

When they put the new windshield in they plugged everything back in and the display shows all the lights illumnated looks something like "-100" on the screen. I assumed this was just it prompting me to reset it. Is there something else i should be checking or should i just hope it resets itself?
 
At some point, they switched to having the compass electronics inside the mirror. Do you have the older version with the compass sensor in a box on the windshield (not to be confused with the rain sensor)? Maybe they didn't plug it back in correctly?

I apparently have the older model. There is the rain sensor on the windshield and then a second box above it that is oval in shape, unless that second box is also part of the rain sensor.

Yes, sounds like you have the separate sensor. Maybe they didn't plug it back in correctly, or maybe they damaged it. I would think that it should be on the company that did the replacement to make it work correctly again. Have you verify that the rain sensing wipers work correctly?

Rain sensors are working properly. Just had the first rain since i bought the car and they worked. I could take it back to them but its about an hour drive for me so i am hoping to fix it myself.
 
I love the compass on mine,but the mirror won't darken quickly or even enough. I gotta do something about it. My Aerostar, Eddie Bauer,had a GREAT mirror that darkened automatically and never failed for all the years I owned it.
But that compass is something I can't get rid of. Hope you fix it! don-ohio :)^)
 
My compass has shown the 100% display test since I got the car, but does dim. I also have a clipped bundle of ~4 wires next to it... I don't remember which side the wires attach to, but I wonder if I'm missing the box
 
Are you able to add the mirror with the compass to a LS that didn't come with it? Mine doesn't have a compass. I need to replace my windshield and my rearview mirror as well because it (the mirror glass itself) looks as if it were melted. everything is blurry except for a small strip through the middle of the mirror itself. Plus my rainsensor it self works but the cord running to it can only be slightly plugged in for it to operate. If the plug is fully seated then it doesn't operate at all.
