Anyone have any experience rebuilding the 5.4/4.6 engines? I'm buying a F-150 with a 5.4 that sounds like a spun rob bearing so I'm going to rebuild it. I thought about re-ringing it but seems like a SOB to do in frame and with the possibility of crank damage I figured I'd just pull it and rebuild.

I'm looking for specifics on special tools I might need for this engine, maybe a book that has torque specs/sequences etc. Recommendation on parts/kits and brands are appreciated too.

I'm on a budget so I'm thinking of doing a basic rebuild, but if there are known cheap performance upgrades to do while I'm in there I'm all ears.

It's a 1998 F-150 5.4 Auto 4x4 extended cab. Thanks.
