I don't notice any difference in sound on my 2000 LS when I hit the recirculate air button on the climate control. Every other car I have owned there is a big difference in sound (wooshing noise) when I recirculate cabin air as opposed to fresh air. Is this normal on the LS or is my car not really recirculating cabin air? If so, I guess I have one more thing to fix...

When you activate the recirc function, it should be a bit louder, but if the fan speed isn't really high, it's not all that noticeable. I know mine works; I use it every morning when I go to work to keep from filling my LS with the lovely eau d'sewer plant that dominates one of the intersections on my route to work.

My experience is all with 2nd Gen LSes, so YMMV.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll check the cabin air filter while I am at it.

bumping an OLD ARSE thread. the wife was complaining the other day that she didn't think that the recirc function
was working, and that when she shut the driver side door, she could hear some sort of "flap" closing noise. i checked
out her theory, and sure enough, when you close the door, it sounds like the recirc door is loose from whatever
mechanism hold it closed when in recirc mode. started the car with recirc mode, and i could still smell exhaust just
a bit. thinking that something is broken on the door / flap / whatever the hell it is... no increased noise when the
fuction is enabled...

any ideas from the experts ?

I don't think my recirc works, and is stuck in fresh air mode all the time. I can have the fan on high and hit the recirc button with no audible change in noice or pitch of the fan. It also flaps a lot sometimes so I think that something fell down the defrost vent and has it stuck open.

If I ever change out the thermal expansion valve and do the AC I'll let you know. You basically have to take all that apart to get to the TXV so I plan to check all the solenoids while I'm at it.

if you ever get it repaired, be sure to update the thread. i'd like to get it corrected, some day.

okay, if you get to it, be sure and update what you find. i'd like to get it repaired, some day.

Hi there. I ripped into mine last year a couple of days before the engine fatally overheated, and what I found is probably what you will find. The tab that the motor connects to the damper (recirc door) with broke off the recirculator damper, which looks like a non field replaceable unit (unless you remove the entire hvac plant). I managed to splice mine back together using epoxy and some plastic flat pieces to sandwich the broken pieces back into one. I have not gone under there to hook up the new actuator motor yet, though, because I expect that the repair will not last too long. And that is one uncomfortable position to work in!

I still plan to go in with the scorched earth method. My AC compressor is leaking at the seal so when I get around to doing that I'm going to do the HVAC doors/servos then. The TXV is behind that mess anyways so might as well do it all while I'm in there.

You almost have to have recirculation here in Florida.
