His death creates a rare second opening on the nation's highest court in just four months following the retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

I disagreed with many of his opinions, but despite that I respect him as a jurist. He was one of a kind, and we have suffed a loss as a country today.

RIP Mr. Chief Justice.
