Im looking into a remote start for my LS....So should I stick with OEM or are aftermarkets just as good?

Lincoln says only Lincoln remote start systems will work with the LS's ignition (at least that's what the manual for my '04 says). Others claim that they have working aftermarket systems--at least one has a key mounted up behind the dash so the PATS system will allow it to work.

As for myself, I'd either go Lincoln or not at all on this one. YMMV.

what they do here in miami is get rid of one of ur set of keys. Since each LS has a chip to drive the car.. they get ur extra key and leave it in the car always.. that way the remote start is easy to do...

i dont have an extra key in my car and my aftermarket alarm/starter works perfectly... had it for about 2-3 years now...

how does the car start without the chip by the car? what year car do you have? I know my 02 requires me to lose a key but I dont want to do it cause it kinda defeats the purpose of that security measure

i kno it cost an extra $50 to get it installed because i had the chip in my key, but im not sure of what exactly they did... i kno there isnt a key layin around somewhere in my car tho

no.. they cut the chip and leave it in the car.. but u had to give them a key right?

they made a copy of the key or suttin cause i still have 2 keys to the car... where do they put the chip? i have never noticed it

That's what I had to do when I had mine installed - I got an extra key from the dealer and the install shop used the chip from the key to make the system work..

prolly by the ignition.. behind the steering wheel.. invisible prolly unless u take it apart.. im not sure where they put it.. depends on the install.. but it has to be by the ignition

I have a transponder in my 02 and 04 that has a spare key in it. The transponder gets activated by the remote starter to send a signal to the ignition through a looped wire when I press the remote start button. It basically amplifies the signal from the key to the igniton. It must have a spare key to start the car.

I had one installed by Circuit City this past holiday. It was around $300 installed and I did have to have a second key cut since my used LS didn't come with one. That cost me close to $100. I have a 2001 and have had zero problems, in fact, it's the best gadget I have bought since the big screen TV!
