any comments on the remote starters? any problems with the others systems after install? is this a good add-on to my 05 ls ultimate? or is the another expensive option that only a few ls lovers have? just curious :L

Be careful
It's supposed to be a safe dealer add-on, but that depends on how good the mechanic is. I think this was his first 05. I've taken my O5 ultimate back 3 times so far. First they used the wrong wiring harness, then I discovered I had lost features, like trunk release, global open, also horn honks when I press unlock twice, kind of annoying. This option definitely changed how things work from the factory defaults.
On the plus side, It does cool the car off before I get to it, but you have no way of telling if it started after the button is pressed. Range is very good up to 500 ft.
As part of the sale, the salesman sold with 2 hrs install labor, but actually took 8 hrs, they lost money.
The question is ! would I purchase is option again ?
Ask me at the end of the summer.
PS. Another plus is you can still use your original FOB, but
without remote start of course.

I wouldn't get it. One reason why is when someone has remote start they tend to start the engine and just let it sit there. Ideling is not good for a car. another reason is if you have a car in good working order it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds for the car to warm up, which defeats the whole purpose all together. I got this from a website(http://www.therecord.com/links/links_04100475540.html) :
"Idling for more than 10 seconds burns gas almost twice as fast as driving and produces almost double the amount of toxic emissions per second than a vehicle moving at average speed.
Leaving your car idling for more than short periods causes incomplete combustion which can damage engine components."
In conclusion I think it is a waste of money

I plan on adding a remote start towards the end of the summer. How about aftermarket systems? Anyone have any advice/experience?

The fastes way to let the cabin warm up is to drive the car and let all the parts get moving. Same thing a/c wise.Lance1111 said:

thanks guys for the respond. well, i quess that i will wait maybe also to the end of summer to re-examine purchasing the remote starter. i have heard of some horror stories after installation of this option. i think that its a cool idea but if it wasn't installed at purchase, i think i will wait. thanks again. lvc is the greatest

I have one on my Mark VIII from AstroStart that I love. It has a range of about 2100' so when I get ready to leave work I start the car from my desk and by the time I walk out of the building my car is ready to go. I can also lock/unlock the doors, pop the trunk and shut the off from that distance. AstroStart also has better models that have two way communication and let you know if you car is runnining. Go to www.astroflex.com and check them out they have some with alarms built in too. This is the only place I trust to do that kind of work on my cars http://thesoundsource.us.

I had a remote start installed and haven't had any problems. Its an Ultra XR two way pager, which has a picture of a car and shows if the car is running, trunk is open, doors are open, if the car is hit and stuff like that. I got it because the transmitter works on FM instead of AM which means you get further reception. Plus lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

What did you do with factory alarm. I'm not very impressed with the factory alarm after this weekend.BIG CELO said:

Second I rearm it after that little moment and go back inside. A couple of hours later I come out and go to put some stuff in the trunk. I find the chrome license plate surround has been pried away from the trunk, with a putty knife, but the alarm did not make a peep.
needless to say the part is just under my insurance deductable and since I'm not going to pay someone to put on a piece of trim, its all out of pocket. It really steamed me that the alarm was that poor.

I had a Clifford alarm with remote start on my Jeep and loved it. I am having it put on my LS in two weeks. I am very excited. Just make sure the installer knows what he is doing. I would not do a factory one cause you could get a aftermarket one probably cheaper and better. Good luck with your decision.

He told be it wasn't an alarm it was more like a valay, meaning it would lock and unlock the doors open the trunk and thats really it, it didn't really protect the car from being tampered with meaning someone breaking into it and driving off with your car!! The viper alarm That they installed is a very good one and I would highly recomend it! The viper alarm system has alot of features that can be used meaning you can program the car to start everyday at a what ever time you want it to turn itself on, theres more features the installer told me it does I just can't remember them right now!! It's a good alarm system!!

I have to say I don't use it very too often, although it does come in handy during the winter season here in michigan.
