removing the cats?

I live in oklahoma and we don't have inspections so a lot of people go without cats, anyone in here remove all the cats(there are 3, right?)and put on mufflers? If so, any side effect beside great gas mileage

DO NOT remove the primary cats. Its LOUD and you will lose low end torque. There is no need to do this, the new style cats are of a high flow design.

i am in canada, and have an 82 cutlass that i took the cats off, the car is 20 years old and doesnt require an emmisions test, but i got pulled over and was given a 600 dollar ticket because cats were original equipment on the car, second offence is much more, i dont know if this applies to where you are but i would find out.

here they wouldnt even look at your car its over 20 years old and almost a classic.

maybe 20 years but nowhere near stock, i raced it for a weekend at a local event put on by the police, next thing i knew i was pulled over for the cats along with elegal engine modification, last time i go there!!!!

Something 20 years old, the cats and emission systems were kind of an afterthought to make the epa happy. As far as my thinking goes, the only thing the cats would do on a "new" car that could harm the engine if they were gone is provide backpressure, which could be compensated for with pipe bends and mufflers.Is this wrong? I'd really like to know more about exhaust mods since my state is doing away with emissions checks at the end of the year.

..... I cutted the cats on my mark viii. Other than being louder (which is what i wanted) not much else. There is 3 ( 2 right after the manifolds, and one big fat one after the pipes meet.) I also have flowmasters so i like the sound, but thats just me
