I've been considering replacing my entire transmission, but in truth, I really only need to address two problems.

1. The torque converter is shot.
2. It's bleeding fluid like a stuck pig from the front seals.

What's the difficulty level of doing this repair- in the driveway, on jack stands?

You have to pull the transmission which is not really a big deal. A lift is nice to have, but can be done with the car on jackstands.

on a 1-10 scale.........id rate it a 5-6

So that entire tranny is coming completely out anyway. Then I might as well do everything at once.

Just do not be an idiot like me and forget to unbolt the damn trans fluid dipstick tube from the back of the motor when dropping the tranny.:Bang

let me ask you a question:
how can you be sure it is the torque converter leaking, and not the front pump seal/gasget?

I'd hate to see you spend the money on a TC, only to yank the trans out of the way, and see the front pump is puking like a fat kid on a roller coaster.

It's leaking, so I've assumed it was the front seal.

And the torque converter is shot. As made evident by the cheese grater vibrations when under strain.

It actually hadn't occured to me that the TC might be leaking.

My big issue is whether I should replace the whole unit, or just fix those problems. I've done the 1-2 accumulator and the new pan last year.

These are my exact problems at the moment. I don't know much about transmissions, except that mine sucks.

I've done it on jack stands but, you need to make sure you will have enough clearance to get the tranny down and you may need to slide it out.

Drop exhaust, take out drive shaft, drop tranny, pull out torque.

A good full day or 2 days....

You need to spray down all bolts with penitrating oil.
