I recently bought a THEFT recovery vehicle and it didnt have any keys with it at all. I brought the LS to the dealer, showed them title, they pulled the key code, then cut me 2 keys and got me 2 remotes along with the keys... Took them an hour or less... final cost $226.00

Would have been cheaper somewhat by like $70-80 if I didnt want the remotes, but I wanted them...

They reprogram car/keys to new code, meaning any previously working keys on the car will not work anymore... (to start the car anyway, or the remotes, if you buy the other ones)

Hope this helps....

P.s. Locksmith wanted $250 for only 2 keys with no remotes

oh man see my situation is the dealer i bought the car from gave me the 2 original keys but one of them is bent slightly and has some chips on it. i thought they could just make me one key real quick for cheap but that will mean the other key wont work and the remotes!....forget it

I just had three cut at the the locksmith this feb for about $56. I programmed them myself. I also have the grey valet key.

I was told that the car can recognize up to 16 key codes and the chances of getting a key with a matching code was something like 1 in 5 billion.

I just hope that they last longer than the keys for my mustangs do.

buy the way, be careful which version of a pats key they give you. I forgot that the first time I went they cut me two keys and I could not program them car to accept them so I went back and the guy had to call the tech line where they told him his book was wrong and to use a different blank.

my spare key was cut on an Ilco brand blank model Number H74-PT which is different from my gt's key and the spare I have for my Dad's 01 Ranger.

right - you can buy a key off e-bay, cut it locally for cheap and add it to the PATs yourself.

rather have the offical lincoln emblem key - like the way it looks..thanks for the info but does anyone know the price for the oem one? im going to call my local l/m dealer in the morning but i do not know if they are open on memorial day

ps does anyone know why the 2003 ls owners manual link doesnt work in the tech articles

I had no idea our keys needed programed, I thought they were just plain metal keys like on any car!!!!

Good thing that my car had 6 keys and 2 remotes with it when I bought it, I thought that was kinda odd.

The key itself was only about $16 from Ford. They told me that you could program it yourself if you already had two working keys, but I only had one so they had to program if for me. Total bill for two keys cut and programmed was about $80-$90.

I looked on ebay before I took it to Ford and the going price on those cheap knockoffs was about $20 and like $30-$40 for the ones with the emblem and then you still had to get it cut and programmed.

Listen to this I just called my l/m dealer on the phone. I told him how much for one cut key I already have two programmed keys so I can program the third myself. So he said you still need to have the key programmed by us and you need to bring the car the price for ONE is $90. That the biggest pile of **** of I've ever seen someone try to pull. I HATE when I know more than the so called "trained" professionals.

Hey when I got my car it only came with one key. I got 2 otherrs from a guy on ebay. His phone number is 800-533-9583, i think I only paid $60.00 for 2 with shipping.

PATS means "Passive Anti Theft System" I just bought 2 pats key blanks on auction site for 18 for both. 9 bucks to have local locksmith cut them. Bought a remote on auction site for 12 brand new. Dealer wants 90 to program up to 2 keys. Don't know how much extra they will get me for programming the remote also.

FYI. I just called 3 Ford dealers in a 10 mile radius of my house. #1 wanted 90.88 #2 wanted 85.99 and #3 wants 40 to do everything. Guess who wins lol. They all say takes 1 hour which is bull. But 40 bucks sounds good to me.

Calling various dealers FTW! That's how I saved big $$$ on my FEM repair.
And I envy you 2nd-geners :|

A replacement key costs cheap. You can spend anywhere from $10-50. Then you have to have it cut which costs anywhere between $10-20. Then to have it programmed, it goes anywhere between free/beers - $100. I personally would have the car towed to them but I guess you could bring the title and reg to them and see what they can do for you. You only can have 8 keys made for 1 car. It will take them about an hour if hour which 40minutes of that time is waiting around doing nothing, paper work, hitting on secretary.

You only can have 8 keys made for 1 car.

You can have as many key's as you want made but only 8 key's programed at one time.

I bought 1 blank replacement key off Ebay $20, Lowe's cut the key $0 and I programed it $0(2nd gen).

LS Key Program

I need a key for a 2001 LS, I have the blank but need to know how to program it. Would appreciate any help
I am new to the LS I purchased one a few days ago and only had one key and remote.
Thank You for any help.

Got my key at a locksmith shop he cut and programed it for my 06 LS for $50

and fyi,

if u ever need an extra remote, just buy any old cheap replacement on eBay and you yourself can program the remote to sync up with your car. it takes literally 10 seconds to program it too.
