Replacing internal fuel pump w/an external fuel pump

Hi, has anyone ever replaced the in-tank fuel pump with an after market
external pump?

I have a 1990 Lincoln Towncar. Since replacing the internal pump calls for
droppin the fuel tank and all the effort it entails.

I thought I'd go for an after-market external pump attached to the frame rail.

Uh you would have to still drop the tank and take the old pump out. Inline pumps also have to be gravity fed. Which sounds easy untill you try to mount them. You can get the pump out without completely dropping the tank any way. Just get a new pump/

You don't have to drop the tank at lest on my 95 I didn't.
