The linear actuator I ordered came in yesterday and I couldn't help but get started on this little project. I was going to wait to start this mod after the turbo went in so when they take off my bumper for the turbo, nothing will be moved, messed with or broken, but I can't get a new toy in the mail and not play with it right away :D. This little actuator is pretty strong and I even went with the faster gears not the ones for more torque. I ordered a second one to put one on each side instead of one in the center for the finished product. It works good and I'm excited to get the second actuator this next week. I was going to put together everything myself with a motor, gears, sliding tracks ect., but I accidently found these actuators and they will save me a lot of time and work.

For those who dont know, I got a ticket for not having my front plates but I will not drill holes in my bumper for them, thats why I am doing this. I couls easily buy one of those hide away plates that flip up under the car, but the rail sticks out from the car so the plate can flip out over it, I dont like that. I wanted to do it completely hidden wen the plates were hidden, not mechanism visible at all.

The plates are going to be inside the bumper and will drop down infront of the lower grille bars from a small slit that I'll have to make. The slit wont be visible unless you're on the floor looking up at it so I wont mind it.

A little demo of the plates going up and down. I wont finish it until after the turbo is installed but I thought I would show my progress along the way.

That is nice. That is a flip out plate system that has been modified, according to the guy in the video. I had thought of doing that too, but the rail on that is like 8 maybe 9 inches, possibly even more, and our bumpers in the center are about 5 inches so it wont fit. On the outer parts were it doesn't dip down, the bumper is about 7 inches I think, so I had to go a different route with this limited space.

Will you have this done for FFF next April? I haven't got a ticket here (yet).... (BTW, where were you?) but would like to have something like this to install just in case.

The only time I got a ticket was a Fix-it-ticket in, of all places, Nebraska! I guess since he couldn't get me for speeding (Thank you Bel STi Driver!) he felt he had to get me for something!

Just takes some reading DJ ;)

I should have it done within the next month. I'm in downey, 10 min from LA. I drove around lwith no plates for close to 4 months with no problems. I also checked my record with my license number but the plate ticket was not on there. It's the second time this has happened. Last time i got a fix it ticket for my tint, I took them off, got the ticket signed off and sent in the check, but it was returned saying they had no record of that ticket.

to mess with the cops : ) they see you drive by with no plates, then when they pull you over you hit the switch and make his face red!

You could do that, but I was actually going to have them go down while the car is in drive or on, and go up when the car is off. That way, I never have to see ugly plates up front but I'll have them when I'm driving, which I can't see since I'm driving. As far as I'll know, I wont have plates since everytime I go up to them or leave my cars, the plates will be hidden.

no sh*t alax....this topic has been discussed before...and it's aside from the obvious....like WHY THOUGH? its 2010 who still gets tickets for that stuff anymore....i have tints on my windshield...no front license plate...tinted front windows...super loud exhaust...no inspection sticker (on my honda lol) and yesterday i was going down a hill so fast i didnt have enough time to slow down when i saw a cop turn into my oncoming traffic lane so he literally had to stop so i wouldnt hit him since he made a wide a$$ turn...and he didnt stoip me or bust a u turn or anything. AND IM PRETTY SURE THATS GROUNDS FOR GETTING PULLED OVER...I MEAN COME ON!!!!!

Yeah, it's stupid to get tickets for a freaken front plate, but I GOT ONE AND I DONT WANT TO KEEP GETTING THEM CAUSE SOME COPS HERE CAN BE DICKS!

Oh, AND IT GIVES ME SOMETHING TO DO THAT I LIKE.

Same reason you upgraded your sound system. Why do you need to blow your your ear drums to enjoy music, you dont, but that doesn't stop ppl from doing it.

.....touche.....SO Y DONT WE JUST KEEP YELLING BACK AND FORTH TO EACH OTHER UNTIL WE FIND A SOLUTION OTHER THAN UR RETRACTABLE PLATES!!!

The weird thing is I haven't had a front plate for 10 years and the only ticket I got was in Nebraska. Escondido cops have a reputation for being jerks and I drive through there regularly and have yet to get ticketed.

Well my options are

1) no plates but I 'll get tickets here and there
2) drill holes in my bumper for the plates, but then it will look ugly
3) put on the plates like pektel and 03 silver ls did, but I dont like the look of fron plates on
4) retractable plates, enjoy building the little gizmo, never get front plate tickets, and never see my plates again!

I think I'll do option 4. So I'LL GO BUILD MY RETRACTABLE PLATES AND YOU CAN GO ENJOY YOUR MUSIC AT RIDICULOUS VOLUMES :p

Wow, that a pretty long time. Maybe they just pay attention to the good looking ls instead of what they can give you a ticket for.

im in the middle of repainting my 01 sport satin black, and i don't plan to have plates on my new 2nd gen lse bumper, if you care to share your design with us, that'd be awesome.

Maybe it's my distinguished good looks! HA! Then again, maybe my age has something to do with it. We are in La Habra pretty often these days and I haven't been bothered there, either. I got pulled over up by Eureka for illegal passing (the broken yellow ended before I finished passing), 10 over and window tint. I got a warning for the speed and a fix-it for the tint. He said nothing about my missing front plate, which he had to have noticed.

Anyone tried to argue that the vehicle didn't come with front plate option from the factory??

LOL....maybe some rookie cop will believe it.
