I have an LS V8 that's running very rough , mostly at idle , and sluggish through all the gears. The car actually shakes from side to side at idle. I ran the codes and the ones that popped are:

P0171
P0174
P0430
P1131
P1151

Any suggestions where to start? Its Christmas time so not a lot of extra cash on hand to just take it to a mechanic. This started two weeks ago the first time it dropped to below 15 degrees if that helps.

There are lots of possibilities. I would start by looking for a vacuum leak or a dirty/bad MAF.

Alright, place your bets Boys!

My money goes on the "Air leaks after the MAF" and I'll double up on the "Vacuum Leaks"

The P1131 & P1151 (Exhaust Oxygen Sensor) are an "after effect" from running too lean and will clear themselves.

Both banks are detecting "System Too Lean", meaning it's short on fuel by means of too much air in the blend.

Like joegr mentioned, check for a vacuum leak somewhere, check all lines and see if something popped off, also check you entire induction system, the whole air breather tube, see if there is any cracks on or around the plastic housing, make sure connections are tight, see that both the sensors are tight and plugged in all the way.

It's getting too much air, may very well be sensor related but the codes are referring to both banks thus leading me to believe it's simply a leak somewhere throughout the intake.

Good luck!

PS: I have no idea what I'm talking about but look good doing it!

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have this same problem on a 2000 v6 minus the sluggish gear shifting and error codes. My problem is also intermittent and i only have a code for an O2 sensor.. Rough idle, car feels likes moving when idiling, rpm drops from 1k down to 800 and back up to 1k followed by stuttering of the engine and returning back to normal speed. Only way to get rid of it is to rev the engine a couple times or just to take it out for a drive until its gone. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Actually ... only way to get rid of it would be to replace some O2 sensor.
Reving it isn't going to fix it. Try disconnecting the two intake sensors (one at a time) while it's running.

See what that does.

Check your PCV plumbing.
