Yea, so my friend pulled up in a 2002 S-Type Jaguar today...Well, he popped the hood and we have the same car...no joke lol. I knew the S-Type was just like an LS, but Damn, I never knew there was so much stuff alike! The steering wheel looked the same, the door panels looked similar, SAME ENGINE, same length, I mean it was funny when I saw his face comparing the two. He was like "OMG, I'm just driving a pimped out Lincoln...not funny" Well I like the looks on my car better than his, but I tell ya, that car was smooth and quiet. Mine is a little rougher and my intake and exhaust make it real loud lol. I like how I can shift and he cant, and also I like how I can adjust more things than he can on his Jag...(like the speed sensitive radio, and alarm ECT...) Well, we take them out on the road and decide to see if they run the same and...mine wins lol. I guess it's just the stuff I have on my car, but It seemed as if his was alot slower than mine. I like the S-Type though, and I wouldn't mind driving one myself, after I rode in it. It has navigation, which my cars lacks, and I need to fix that, but anyhow, just thought you guys would like this story.

Anyone know if the steering wheel off the jag will fit the airbag off the lincoln? I know someone put the steeringwheel AND jag airbag on their car, but I'm not up for mixing up my emblems lol.

The engine isn't exactly the same; they're both AJ-V8s, but only the blocks are the same. If you want to see sameness, blow the hood on a late model T-Bird. ;)

If you'll search, Quik posted a link to an article in DesignWeek that covers the DEW-98 cars and their common components; there's a tremendous amount of shared content. Too bad the supercharged 4.0 V8 of the S-Type R isn't one of those shared components...

KEY:
Purple - different components
Blue - common components
Yellow - common elements tuned differently and/or having some different parts.

One program aim was to develop common S-Type/LS components to save cost and be ‘transparent’ to the driver. Unique features
give each car its own characteristics

Quik, when both Lincoln & Jaguar went to the VVT engines, didn't they share more on the engines/heads than the pre 03s?

good question -

in the early Jag they used a two-state VVT which could alter the intake cam timing by up to 30degrees - where the Lincoln did not use VVT at all.

The Jag then went to a a continuously variable VVT setup which could alter the timing by up to 48degrees. When Lincoln went to VVT in 03 I am not sure if any of these piece were re-used.

externally - all the electrical, PCM, ...etc are different - and nothing on the pre-03 Lincoln would know how to handle the two-stage VVT - it would be like trying to add 03+ heads to the pre-03 block.

the Jag has a longer stroke - hence the 4.0L vs 3.9L Lincoln - so you may be able to use some of the lower-end there - I'm not sure (outside of the crank, piston rods, piston heads) what was done (if anything) to accommodate for the longer stroke.
