Ok so I'm trying to get my 97 base up to par. Had purchase and installed new lower control arms, new inner tie rods, new radiator, new water pump and thermostat, new complete sunroof on the way. Also had been bless to be offered a new new rocker panel for free. Things was looking good. I planned to pick up a 93 driveshaft and a passenger side upper control arm. And install it all this spring in my heated two car attached garage. Then I planned to have it repainted kona blue or Chrysler's blackberry Pearl. Either way I was waiting on temples new bumper. Well detroit finally got some snow...as luck would have it I dent my passenger side rear panel right where the rear molding is...okay minor set back...then my factory hid bulb blew....ok ill install aftermatket hid kit...but what killed my.dream was my body Guy finally had me Jack my car up and looked under and said....get another mark....that the rust in that area would cost me well over 2k to.havenit done right....f$&k!!! So now after hearing that...I get a email from temple they are now taking deposits...wth....faced with the reality of my car situation I'm thinking graving a used Ford expedition for around 3k and just save for a Dodge challenger srt8. Or I.could look for another Gen 2 (Lsc this time) blue mark for around 2k down south.... I do know I wanna take my mark to a body shop and put it on a lift to see for my self. What say you guys?

Ya unless you really love your specific mark or have a lot invested in it, it'll always be cheaper to find one with better paint or no rust rather than spend the money on body work and paint..it sucks but at least it gives you an opportunity to find one with the right color combo and options you like..you may have to look all over the country, but its worth it in the long run..

Go find you a southern Mark. You can get them for a fair price down here. I'd put your car on Craigslist and get 1-2.5k for it. Good luck man. I've had 3 marks, the first mark had body damage, the second had bad paint and the third has good both. It's nice to worry about mods and not trying to spend money on something that makes the car look like stock.

I would just call it a day on that one and find something from the south. I am pretty sure with all the guys down south you could find yourself a nice clean rust free Mark for cheap and do what you were going to do to it, less the rust repair.

If it is as bad as your body guy is saying there is no telling where it is going to show up next but you do know it will if it is that bad in one area. I would either sell it or keep it as a winter driver if you like driving it in the snow to save the rust free car from the same fate.

Rust-The cancer that would cause anyone to sell they car, no matter how much you love it. That's the reason I sold my 95.

I would look for a Mark south of the Ohio River Valley (Kentucky, Southern Missouri, Tennessee). I will never buy my cars from my area (Chicago) or north because they always have rust problems.

And that's why I sold my Marquis. Once it started rusting up badly I quit caring/putting money into it. My mark Is just now showing signs that the rear q's have givin up. Can barely tell, but all it takes is that 1 pea sized bubble. Luckily it's on the lower portion of the car. My marquis got eatin' up quickly above both front and rear wheels. The Marquis was newer too.

Totally matters what rust and how car is being used. I wanted a cheap MK8 and it had a little rust on the part line below the rear drivers window down by the road. 20 dollars and fixed so you can't even tell. Plus this car I can cut up with any mod and not freak out!! Now the 97 I got to part out was bad! That's why she went to boneyard in the sky.

I spent over 2k repairing a rotted frame rail on an SX/4. But I loved that car, and when I sold it It was to a friend who was a collector. On a car that is kind of common (in comparison) I wouldn't bother unless you are really emotionally attached.

THIS WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY

The air shocks look bad

Damn that's a nice one. Although I want a blue one...I could be convinced...lol front shocks are bad though. And for the money. He would have to come down $1000. I tell you what though....ima look for another mark!!! Hopefully by this spring or early summer. I will try to get a 98 Lac blue with sunroof and heated seats, and must be road ready to drive back to Detroit. I drove mine last night and couldn't get past the performance for under 2k

Isn't that last one you posted one of the members on here who posted about beating that new camaro or whatever?? And what is the paint code and name of that color..because it does not look at all like the first blue one you posted and I thought there was only one bluish color for 97..I love that blue on the 2nd one and I rarely see it around..

It killed me when my 96' trans wet the bed during the nice cold weather a few years ago. That was the car I bought as a temp car off my friend who thought I would get a few thousand miles out of it and then scrap it. I took it well over 210k.

I have a 98' now that I love but a friend is now selling his fathers 98' with 54k on it and it has everything except for heated seats I think? No rust pearl white and a real nice interior.

my thoughts

There's more marks out there - save yours for parts man if you have the room.
