Who here has satellite radio?

What service do you have? What do you think of it.

And what gear did you buy and how does it sound.

I have the XM roady in my truck-going thru the tape adapter to the bose-sounds awsome. In the Mark I have an Alpine that can go either way.I just don't drive the lincoln that much(winter) so I havent decided which to connect in it.My buddy has sirus-I think it is a little bit better as far as more offerings.

Sirius.. had it 4 years or so now.
its great to have, we dont have crap for radio stations here, so its nice to have variety.. you can go one of 2 ways, you can get an aftermarket deck that is satellite radio ready and buy the tuner/reciever/antenna or you can get a FM modulated unit that can play through any headunit..
i already had a satellite radio ready HU, so i bought the rest of the stuff to get it setup.. personally i'd rather have the headunit that accepts the input, its a much clearer sound..

i got mine (no countign headunit) for $140 years ago. to hook it up to my new deck in the Explorer, $99

I would say Sirus is better. More channels with no commercials and a better variety of them. I think the service is a little cheaper and the company is real easy to deal with. You will need a head unit that has a controller in it if you don't want to purchase a controller seperately from your head unit. An antenna will also have to be installed I beleive; at least they do in boats. A receiver will also need to be purchased---this is the part which interprets the signal from the satellite and then pumps it into the head unit. It might be easier overall and a little cheaper if you went with a handheld unit and ran an adapter to your stereo.

i have xm, have had it for about 1.5 years. i have a roady 2, which i paid 120 for 1.5 years ago, and 25 for when i bought another one last month. I love it, it's amazing. xm has twice as many subscribers as sirius, and 5 times as many songs, so factor that in when you make your choice.

I have the unit installed in my lincoln - the roady has a built in fm broadcaster - and you wouldn't know even know it's there. i mounted the antenna on the inside on the rear deck, works great.

"xm has twice as many subscribers as sirius, and 5 times as many songs, so factor that in when you make your choice."

How does XM have 5 times as many songs? Just wondering.

I forgot to mention that with the portable units you can buy a home docking station and listen inside the house or move it from car to car.All I have to do to hook it to my alpine is buy a 15$ adapter and hook in thruogh aux,and not have to add the tuner. They are soooo cheap now compared to when i got mine about 1.5 for the roady and a year ago for the alpine.:)

how would the number of subscribers make the service better? there are millions of people on AOL, that doesnt make that a good service.. never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

i like the fact sirius music channels have DJ's. makes it feel more like listening to the radio than a non stop CD.. just my preference on that. some people like uninterrupted music.

look up the channels on each service, look up what kind of music/programming they have, and compare. make a decision based on what you want to hear, not what other people tell you is "better"

they have a much larger music library. repeats are one of the biggest issues with the sirius service, and probably, after reception, the biggest complaint.

all of the xm channels also have dj's. indeed, one of my favourite features of satellite radio - real dj's who care about their music.

also, i mention that it has more subscribers because it makes the service more financially stable than sirius. more subscribers = more money = less chance the service i invested in will disappear into bankruptcy.

ok, i guess i can see that.

did Xm just change over to DJ's? last time i listened to a friends XM they didnt have DJ's. I like the DJ's, it breaks stuff up..

I have (had) both. The mark VIII has xm (1.5 yr.) and my old work car has Sirius (1 yr). They are both pretty good. you really cant go wrong with either. I tend to like the XM a little more beause the comedy channel is better than Sirius. sound quality is about equal and the choice of music and news is about the same. The one thing that leans on me with Sirius is that the Dj's (ch. 16 comes to mind) are STOOOOPID and sometime annoying. I understand breaking up the music with a little banter but there is one guy that just rambles for what seems like forever. the DJ's on xm talk about whats coming up sometime special events and then their gone. If I wanted to hear some goofy DJ I'll turn on the radio. I paid for music give me music. I dont listen to sports on either nor O&A / Howard. I like the mix of country and chill out electroinca on Sirius but the up and slow jazz, rock, comedy, hip-hop cant be beat on XM. I really like the traffic reports on XM that helped me out of a few jams. I listen alot of XM online with XaMp that I havent got to work very well with Sirius. Sirius online sound very compressed and choppy at times (but it may be the app i'm using) but I would like to get it working again.

hope this helps

no, it's been like that since I bought it.

We have Sirus where I work. I sell Sirus equipment and service to my boat customers. I just know first hand how well their customer service works and the great selection of music they currently offer. They recently added about 12 new channels and some other features. A guy I work with has XM because of the baseball and he also feels that Sirus has a better selection of stations. I also know for a fact Sirus has way more commercial free stations than XM. Personally, I can't afford either one because I'm still in college!!! I would also have to listen to XM for awhile before I made up my mind, but I would probably still get Sirus. Anyway, enough ranting on....

have a alpine in the 94 would not be with out it. the only beef i have is the los from tunnels and buildings or over hangs. but that is a problem with sat signals and some radios. running xm channel 13 90 percent of the time. drive to work is generaly 90 mile one way. not having to chase stations is worth it jd

My girlfriend just got me a pioneer headunit and all the sirius radio stuff for the mark.... I had a hard time leaving the car before and now its really hard. Ive had the car a month and have put 2500 on it already! I love my mark and sirius radio. :D

I had xm a long time ago in my 93 mark. I hated it, for me I like rock/metal music and xm only had 1 station, and I rarly listened to it. now for the past few months sirius has at least 4 rock/metal stations I like, so for me its better than xm

sirius has Howard. Nuff said.

I agree. Howard Stern is the single greatest reason NOT to buy Sirius. I refuse to pay one dime of my hard earned money to pay that freak. What a worthless POS.

XM has baseball...Sirius has football. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket, so I don't listen to football on the radio. I do listen to baseball..so it was an easy choice for me. But XM has one other huge distinct advantage...XM Traffic. It is a service that will integrate to NAV units. Pioneer uses it...and others will soon. A truly innovative and useful item in larger cities.
