If you have the dealer install Sirius on the Nav system do they turn on the "sat button" or just butcher the Sirius tuner into the head unit by splicing and rigging?

If there some mod to get the sat button turned on?

I would like to add the Sirius service to my new LS.

it's automatic once you add the sirius receiver. however if you have an 03 you need to have the dealer do a software update on your radio for this. once you plug in the sat receiver the FM1 button turns into FM1/2 and the FM2 button turns into SAT. Again you may need software update if you have 03 or earlier 04.

Neither.

To have the sat button turned on, take it to the dealer and tell them you want to have the Sirius receiver installed. They'll have to install the receiver, which plugs into connections that are designed for the purpose, and they'll have to run the Sirius antenna. Until that happens, your Sat button won't work.

In other words, it's not a software issue, it's a piece of hardware that's missing--but there's no jury rigging or butchering involved. Also, more than likely, the dealer will send your car to a local stereo installation shop for a professional installation.

BTW, after the unit is installed, you'll have to call Sirius and have them activate your service (which will cost money). FWIW, it cost $375 to have my dealer install the Ford Sirius unit on the Audiophile unit in my '04.

Install it yourself. It's a piece of cake. It took me all of about an hour in my Cobra to install XM. The Sirius is even easier since it's made to basically plug and play in our cars. The only difficult part of the whole job was finding a place to mount the antenna. I finally located mine under the center of the dash pad on a metal brace. They say that won't work very well...but I've NEVER had a case of bad or lost reception and I can even pick up stations clearly in my garage....and no antenna is showing on the outside of the car.

It all depends on how long ago you bought the car and how much the dealership will charge. In my case, it was very close to the date of purchase, and the installed cost was ~$40 more than the cost of buying the unit. Given the disassembly of the center stack, plus the aggaravation of running the antenna to the roof, I figured that my time was worth more than $40--plus, thanks to the dealership install, it's covered under the factory warranty (ask your dealer about that).
