I have a '93 with approx 170k and the engine has about 70k. My car is overall in pretty good shape - but a couple little dents and dings, crappy headlamps, chrome stips in the bumbers are crappy, and the car it self obviosuly has high mileage.

I had the car for almost a year, I put at least 12k on it... I paid 2 grand cash.

Car is silver, has set of new tires (2 months old), cd player, tinted windows, just had a tune up, new air suspension motor.

SO... to bring it around to the reason I'm writing. Today I drove by a local used car lot... and I saw a black '93 with only 64k on it. The asking price is $3995. Car looks pretty nice, nicer than mine. Interior looks tops, paint seems very glossy (although the car is a little dirty), headlamp lenses are crystal clear, body is much better than my car too. It all looks real nice - of course... it only has 64,000 miles on it.

I remember seeing this car on the lot back in May / June so its been there for a while (this is the coal regions of north-eastern Pennsylvania... Lincolns don't sell).

How much you think I can get them to give me for my car? And what do you think would be fair for me to give them in cash?

In the mean while, I'm going to swing by there when they're open and maybe take it for a ride.

I'm seriously thinking that maybe I should save up a couple of bucks over the next few months and trade mine in for one with lower milage.

Maybe after winter? (My Mark is a daily driver)

Sell yours for $1500 first and then go buy the other one for $2800.

I agree You should get about $1500 for yours.. If that car has been sitting for a while and with the higher gas prices you should get it for about $2500 do not pay over $3000 for it...

When I was looking for my new Mark VIII I had guys dropping the price like crazy.

But first something to do. Look at the car drive it and see what shape it is in. Then drive by it for a few days to see if it is not sagging.

I'm pretty sure I can get it for less than 3. There is just no much market for any type of even semi-luxury vehicle around here.

I did the shopping and negoitiating for a friend of mine on a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis with everything... got a steal on that right from the local Lincoln Mercury dealer too. Bought it around this time last year. I said to the guy... "Winter is right around the corner, soon there will be snow on the ground, this car is rear wheel drive, and you have 10 used ones on the lot... what senior citizen is going to come banging down your door for this car tomorrow if we don't buy it today?" Which is funny because my friend and I we're in our 20s... needless to say... we don't look like the Grand Marquis-buying type. lol So I got that car for the price I wanted... not the price the dealer wanted.

I'm gonna test drive it some time soon just to scope it out, I'll run a Carfax too. Then if I return January sometime when there is snow on the ground, with $1000 cash in my hand and tell him to give me $1500 for my car, he'll be more than receptive. ;)

How's that sound?
