Screeching brakes on 01 LS

I recently bought an 01 LS. I immediately needed new front brakes and rotors which I had installed by the Fair Muffler dealer I have been using happily for years.
He used 'premium' rotors and ceramic pads. The brakes screeched badly at application so he tried another set. Same result. He then tried a different manufacturer. Same result. I finally insisted he use OEM pads and rotors which he did. It's better, but at a certain point in applying the brakes I still get screeching sounds. I've never had this problem with any car in 30 years of driving and was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the LS or has any ideas.

what brands were you using if you don't mind me asking?

When I replaced my pads I used Permatex Disk Brake Quiet on the back of the pads. I never had squeeling on my pads. Also, I ran Porterfield R4-S street pads and they were awesome.

I'm not sure of the brand names he was using at first except that they were ceramic pads. The last thing he put on were the OEM rotors and pads.

It sounds to me like he didn't replace the hardware. Since brake squeal is nothing more than vibration, it is imperitive that you replace all the hardware too. Also, manufacturers have VERY specific rotor finishes they require for their pads. If the finish wasn't adhered to, you can get squeal. Ford gives it's specs in the service manual. Lastly, after you have done all that, you MUST follow their break in proceedures to the letter. This will give the proper "seat" for the pads and rotors and will ensure they aren't glazed.

By the way, if he just installed new pads when he was trying to eliminate the noise without refinishing the rotors, he hasn't done much to help the problem. Sometimes, you can get away with nothing more than using a Scotchbrite pad on a drill if there aren't hardly any miles on the rotors since he finished them.

I have this problem too in my '02 LS-6. Mechanic said that it was the left rear pads that needed to be oiled and adjusted.
